My best buddy being the GREAT friend he is decided he was going to hunt my spot while I'm down here in Arkansas. He got in the stand kinda late this morning, but said about 12 does came by his stand. At about 11:30 he decided to take a break, let his bow down, and started climbing down the tree. When he was about halfway down, he dropped his release, and then heard something behind him. He looked around to see a mainframe 14 point typical monster only 15 yards away. He said his antlers were about a foot and a half tall, almost as big around as a baseball at the bases, and around 26-27" wide. You have to understand when my buddy describes a buck, he doesn't exaggerate, seriously. There were times when he has told me about a buck and I didn't believe him only to see the buck exactly how he described it later on. He said the buck was totally unfazed by him dropping the release, and walked around his stand for about 45 seconds at 15 yards. He even managed to pull his bow up without the buck seeing, but got busted when he tried to knock an arrow. I could still hear the hardcore excitement in his voice when I talked to him at 5:30. Brad, he said this big guy might be able to break your record. Luckily the buck busted him, and he didn't get a shot at it. I told him if he shot that buck out of my stand location after I put that many hours into scouting that spot, I'd have to shoot him myself. I won't be able to hunt the spot till November 19th....... I'm seriously thinking about driving all weekend just so I can get up there and hunt one evening.

Hey, records are made to be broken and there are alot of big deer out there.

Your friend may have ruined your spot though...

He should have just frozen when he realized the buck was there. If it moved off without being spooked it would most likely visit there again. Unless there is a good reason for him to go back though, I'm not sure he will. You at least need to switch trees because he will without a doubt look in that tree to see if the large goofy dude is fumbling around...

I wish you all the best anyways. You at least know a huge one is in the area.

Yeah, I'm doubting I'll get a shot at him, but that won't keep me from trying..... hard. Plus there are a few other nice bucks in the area like that eight I posted pictures of on here. I think this buck is the one I saw back in early August from about 200 yards away, but couldn't get any footage of. I know the area pretty well so I might be able to figure something out. Unfortunately, not only is my buddy an idiot and hunting in my spot and spooking him, but he said he saw three guys coming off my uncle's property one evening. That seems to be the problem with having a lot of private property.... I think people think they automatically get permission to hunt private property once it exceeds a certain amount of acreage. I just feel sorry for my mom..... she's going to barely get to see me over Thanksgiving break..... I might get off the stand to run in and get some turkey.....

Bowtech,
He's not an actual monster, haha, but I think I'll be shaking just as bad if I actually do get a shot at him. My buddy said he seriously thought he was going to crap his pants.

I have no idea man. He's usually a pretty decent bow hunter. I'm not complaining though, that means I might get a shot at him. I'm still kind of bitter though. I shouldn't have told him everything I found while scouting, and told him how to set up on those big bucks, even though he is my best friend.

upstatebowhunter,
Aerial photos and topos could help you out a ton if you could get some of where you'll be hunting. They've helped me out quite a bit. Plus, we've had more acorns than usual so you should probably take that into consideration and find some good oaks to hunt from.

I would be totally thrilled if my best friend got a big buck out of the tree that I usually hunt from. I spend easily a ton more time in the woods scouting than he does. That doesn't mean he is a lazy hunter, it only means that he doesn't have the time with work and baby and such. So, if I can put him on a big boy then every time he brags about getting it then I can brag about putting him in the right place! lol
