View Full Version : NE OH Deer Processors?

Taking off from my earlier thread regarding your deer processing preferences, while you overwhelming opt for a do-it-yourself operation, of those who send their deer away, can you make any recommendations for processors in NE OH? Though I am inspired to try it myself, and intend to sometime, I also need to find someone new.

Any recommendations please?

Theres a place here north of Wooster called Canaan Meats that does a really nice job. Great jerkey, deer sticks along with bologna. Of course they cut out steaks and make burger as well. They package everything in vacuum seal it. I have family members that are terrified of eating or are grossed out at the thought of eating venison, but they all love what Canaan does.

Prices
Jerky $4.00 lb.
Bolo $2.25 lb.
Sticks $4.00 lb.
S. Sas $2.25 lb.

11970 Canaan Center Rd.
Creston, OH 44217
330-435-4778

Call ahead of time as they get swamped with deer and can only handle so many at a time.

Duf,
Call Portage Frosted Foods in Ravenna. I think they do it and are fairly close to you.

I'm a DIY guy.

So out of all the deer processors in NE Ohio, how many are open on Sunday? I hate taking a deer on Sunday and having no place to take it during the warm weather. It almost makes you want to pass on Sunday hunting. I don't have a spare ref. to put it in either. What do the rest of you do?

Ed, good question!

I use a good one in Stark County but they close at noon or so on Saturdays and are closed on Sundays.

There's a market in Edinburg right at St rt 14 and and county rd 18. I've take deer there before. They do an "ok" job and 90% sure they are open on Sundays. The biggest thing I don't like there is they shrink wrap the meat instead of freezer paper and the don't make sausage. Don't have a ph number or name but you can't miss them. I normally take my deer down to a place called Wayne's Meats just south of Navarre and he does a GREAT job and sometimes he's open on Sunday mornings to drop them off.

Lance, do you have an address for Wayne Meats? I come pretty close to navarre on my way home from hunting.

When you go south out of town on Navarre rd he's actually located in Harmon. Saturdays are about the only time when you may not be able to get one into him.

Here's how you get to his shop.

Ed,
This season we should swap some meat since we live so close. I'm planning on getting jerky, sticks, bologna, hot pepper cheese hot dogs, and sausage made.

That might be a possibility CR

Masons Meat Mart in Medina does a pretty nice job. He can check them in for you and process them. He will answer his cell phone and meet you at the store on Sunday's.

There's one on Winchell Rd between Mantua and Auburn.
That would be the closest for your Auburn property.

My buddy took his muzzleloader deer there last year and they had processed 400+ by then. I think he charges $ 65-75.

Thundgut takes all his deer to this guy with good results.

Buckmaster, that would be in southington. You take 422 to till you see the patrol barrics turn right on to Warren-Burton RD and they will be on the left side 2 miles down the road. I love that place!

Duffy,
I just called Charlanne Farms for you.
PH# 330-898-2127

Sat. 9-5
Sun 1-5

They charge $ .69 per pound. You drop your deer off and pick it up one week later in white frozen packages.

I bit expensive if you shoot a heavy weight but very conveinent.

Thanks, Buckmaster!

I've been doing some shopping around, and I may just go to Kirbie's Meats in Stow. $70.00 flat fee, standard cuts wrapped and frozen. That's the cheapest I've found so far of reputable places, plus they have convenient hours, and are close to home.
