Great Miami River (Montgomery and Warren counties) - Remember to ask permission before entering private property. The water levels are down and now is a great time to wade the rivers and find holes that you can come back to later when the river is up. All fish like the deep holes this time of year because the water is cooler and there are concentrations of bait and better oxygen levels. Be adventurous and find your own spot you'll be glad you did. Try fishing below the West Carrollton lowhead dam in the MONTGOMERY COUNTY portion of the Great Miami River. Anglers are catching SUNFISH and CRAPPIE in this deep hole. Good baits are minnows, waxworms, and worms. Access to the Great Miami River in WARREN COUNTY can be gained along SR 73 between Franklin and Middletown. Anglers are catching CHANNEL and FLATHEAD CATFISH by using chicken livers, cut bait, earthworms, night crawlers, or live goldfish or bluegill for flatheads. Cast from the shoreline and fish the bait slowly along the bottom or just off of the bottom. Also, try fishing the bait tight line along the bottom. Use a #1/0 heavy, long shanked hook.
Caesar Creek (Clinton, Greene, and Warren Counties) - From I-75 take SR 73 East about 17 miles, or From I-71 take SR 73 West about 7 miles, or from SR 42 take SR 73 East about 5 miles. Anglers are beginning to catch CRAPPIE fishing minnows under a bobber and casting jigs. REMEMBER all crappie less than 9 inches long must be immediately released back into the lake. Anglers casting in-line spinners, bucktails, and crankbaits are starting to catch a few MUSKELLUNGE and, also, having fish follow their baits. SAUGEYE anglers are catching a few 15 - 18 inch fish from 6 to 15 feet depths, but most fish are small. Troll medium or deep diving crankbaits along submerged points or underwater humps. Cast or drift with live night crawlers on a bottom bouncing harness rig, or use a lead head jig tipped with a piece of worm. Fish in the early morning and early evening hours. CHANNEL CATFISH are being caught by shore anglers using nightcrawlers, shrimp, and chicken livers. Fish the bait tight line along the bottom in 5 to 8 foot depths.
