Yes, as long as you cook your meat then your good to go (at least that's what the experts claim).

Of course!
Now for the biologist in me..... CWD is a form of Spongeform Encephalitis in deer. It's caused by prions in the brain being altered and attacking the nervous system, eating away at parts of the brain and making it look like a sponge. It is transfered to the meat (muscles) by nerves so it is only located on the surface of the meat. By cooking steaks and such you kill the disease. However, in ground meat, the surface of the meat where the disease is located is mixed throughout the meat and the disease is harder to kill. So, if you are worried about CWD, it's probably a good idea to stay away from grinding your meat (and I don't mean the "grinding your meat" that you guys do in your alone time). And, no, I didn't look this stuff up. I knew it from memory, school is turning me into such a nerd.........

I DO hunt in a state where CWD has been found; Wisconsin.
Never bothered me a bit. A bowhunter will always be able to spot a deer with CWD as they are generally disoriented, and walk like they are drunk.
Wisconsin also agressively checks for CWD. It requires someone at the check station to take a "sample" from where the spine meets the skull. Ugly procedure, but effective.
I did find out that my butcher isn't a fan of deer from Wisconsin, though.

Yes I would keep hunting and I Would keep eating it.The info i have seen all say the meat is not Affected. It is in the Brain and Spine of the infected Animals.I Would Avoid eating the Brain.Man I would miss that. Also I would not rip thru a Bandsaw for chops.I would not take it to a butcher.I would do it My self. The area I used to hunt in Wyoming for mule deer has had some turn up with
CDW.I would go out there and hunt again in a heart beat if I could. The people in ENGLAND that have been infected with the Human Form was Traced to an area that butcher shops Practice this form of butchering The Brain and cutting into the spine for the Bone Marrow.

Hey Passion,
What about jerky? Can that stuff be killed thru dry sterilization? I ask because I enjoy eating deer jerky. After I cut out the loins for butterfly steaks, I usually will grind about half the meat for chili and slice the other half up for jerky.
