Who hunts small game with a bow, what do you hunt, and what kind of head do you use?

I've hunted squirrels with a bow sort of. I always carry an arrow with a field tip in my quiver during bow season. I should get a judo point though.

Here is picture of me with a squirrel I shot while hunting squirrel with a bow. By the way I made the bow, arrows and back quiver. I was hunting with steel blunts. I have rubber blunts, steel blunts, judo heads and some others that look like a star. I dont rember what they are called.

This was right after I had my eyes fixed so they were very light sencitive. I don't usually squint like that.

That is awesome Buckrun. Love the pic. That's something to be proud of. Which point do you prefer to use the most?

I have shot squirrels with the steel blunt. field points and broad heads. The only one that killed the squirrel almost instantly was the steel blunt. I have shot several squirrels with broad heads that ran through quite a ways before they dropped. I haven't shot any with the other blunts I have.

I have shot "at" quite a few running rabbits. but haven't connected yet.:D It sure is fun though.

Uh, dumb question department here. Where do you aim at a squirrel ?

Definitely the head. Squirrels don't carry much meat so it's either head and dead or miss.

Glad I asked. I would have thought the body, behind the shoulder. Man that's a small target.

It looks like I hit the one in the picture in the front shoulder neck area. I remember it dropped dead when I hit it.

Never thought about it, but I might stick a feild point? in my quiver. And have some squirrel stew at camp. Oh yeah I have to hit the little bugger first.

I usually shoot squirrels and rabbits with a field point, but I'm thinkin about getting some of these heads from G5.

S.G.H.
New for 2005, the S.G.H., is designed with the "critter" in mind where the goal is to "shock and tear" the prey without annihialting it. No longer will the small game hunter have to take a backseat to his big game counterparts.
Featuring a 1" cutting diameter, this three-bladed broadhead can be sharpened with a 1/4" round file in a similar method as resharpening a chain saw blade. Made from a single piece of stainless steel this head is durable enough to take repeated shots even from the most powerful new bows. Designed for all same game, (i.e. squirrels, rabbits, pheasants, raccoons!)

Ouch those look painful!

One thing to remember a blunt won't get stuck in a tree and hang there out of reach. That tip looks kind of expencive.

Buckrun,
Yeah, I think they're like $20 a set or something like that, which is expensive for a small game head, but I'd still like to try them out. I usually shoot squirrels when they're on the ground, and these are supposed to help keep your arrow from skipping into the land of lost arrows (I have a few living there now). If I do buy some, I'll let you know what I think of them.
