Ok, looking for some help here. My bestfriend has some crop damage permits and told me that if I would bring my 10 and 7 year olds down, that they could shoot a deer for him.
Both boys have spend lots of time in the woods and been going to WV deer hunting with me from the time they was 5 so this would not be there first time and they know that deer hunting is not as easy as this will be.
Both boys are good shots and I got the 10 year old a .243 handy rifle in hopes of taking him to WV with a gun this fall.
I also just got word that my deer season will only be Thanksgiving morning this year.
So now do I take them down and let them shoot a deer or hold off till I can take them out in the woods and do it that way?

BTW. My SMG told me that I needed to take what vacation I could before the end of the month, so this will be all the hunting I can get in till Thanksgiving and then it will only be the one day.

One question. Are you aloud to keep the deer and use the meat? I have heard in the past that if you shoot deer under these crop damage permits you had to leave them to rot. I wouldn't want to have to do that.

If this is not the case now days, I'd grab the boys and be gone!

Have fun!

Well, it will be next Friday before everything will come togeather but I had there .243 out today and think they will love the new scope on it. I will call the DNR and see if we can keep the meat but if we can not that is fine, Bob will use it, I do think that we can because he signed up to have some youth hunters come down and fill the tags for him though the DNR. Look at there web site and pick a Co. that you would like to try and look for the listings. The landowner still has the right to tell you no but it gives the kids a place to start and a good way for Dad to get on the right foot also.
Thanks for the input and will see about getting the pic's on here.
