OK, so a quick introduction:
My name is David Fields and I am a fairly new hunter. I am now 38 and have only been out the last few years. This was due to my father-in-law repeatedly asking me to go deer hunting with him during the gun season in Hocking Hills. Well, by "deer hunting" I mean borrowing his 12 guage Ithaca, freezing my behind off and seeing deer that were way beyond my ability to kill cleanly. But guess what.....I loved every minute of it!
I am glad he kept bugging me! You see my first season was supposed to have been when I was 12, not 35. My father was an avid hunter and member of the Richwood Gun and Game club. I took the hunter's safety course, but unfortunately he died that spring of a heart attack and in the years after, my mother sold the guns and bow he had.
Well I finally have my own Traditions muzzleloader and next week will be purchasing my bow (this will be new to me). I will hunt primarily on public lands, almost always with a partner since I need to get the experience of field dressing a deer (theirs or mine). Then in November I get to take my 12 yr old son out for his first hunt! My father-in-law will most likely handle part of that duty, and I will gladly defer to him.
So in the mean time I have bought some Realtree clothing, made my wife laugh at the "wannabe" and I am reading as much as I can. The next 4 weeks I will be scouting and learning the area I will be hunting, also taking as many pix as I can (being a photog and all).
