I've been fired up watching the news. All these people that had ample warning that this thing was coming yet they stuck around. I feel bad that they lost their homes and stuff, but I do not have sympathy for the fact that they're stranded. I realize some think they didn't have anywhere to go, but I'm sure it would've been worth it to go somewhere other than there.

Bunch of left wing Idiots !!
I guess global warming all started since Bush took office as president.
I guess It was not a problem when Clinton was in the white house all that time, ????
Or was it a problem then?? along with Bin Ladden but he was too busy putting stains on an interns blue dress while Hillary was making plans for her Political career when Bill was done ripping off and selling out the United States to do or say anything about it.
Do those people realize how stupid and ridiculous they sound with this idiotic stuff?
If you want to eliminate the chance of a democratic candidate of ever winning the presidency, limit a persons right to vote to that person being a working - Tax Paying individual - must be a contributor to society in some way and since they contribute financially with their taxes, they have the right to cast a vote to decide what is done with their tax dollars.
why should someone who does not pay taxes get the right to vote on a candidate of their choice based on what they hear them say they are going to do with the tax dollars everybody else pays in.
why not just let them all pick out a working man and every payday , they can show up and tell that working man what to do with his money, "like give it to them because they didnt get the brakes everybody else did."
POOR POOR ME !!!
WHOS GONNA HELP ME ???
LIFE ISNT FAIR !!!!
I WANT WHAT THEY HAVE.
WHAT A CROCK OF CRAP !!!!!!!
The bible says.. A man should earn his living by the sweat of his brow.
and
a man that does not work and support his family is an abomination.
I understand some people are really disabled and can not work at all, I have no problem helping those people out.
Help those who truly need it.
but all these worthless leaches of society should either get out and work for their family or they should starve.
Help their childeren because they can not help what their parents do, but let the worthless parents starve.
Enough is Enough
the downfall of this country is the left wingers and their beleifs and their force feeding of it to the uninformed public.

Regardless of who is President I don't think they have much to do with a catastrophic hurricane, unless the government has some sort of top secret weather machine. My heart goes out to those who were victims of the hurricane, however those who intentionally took a risk by putting themselves in harms way, I have no sympathy. I believe looters should be shot on sight, no questions, it's the only way to stop it. One thing has been bothering me....The neatherlands can hold a sea back by a series of high tech levies and flood gates, but hear in America in New Orleans we rely on old fashioned technology to construct levies and dikes. What does New Orleans do with all the money they make off of Mardi Gras, and river boat Gambling, they certainly never thought of upgrading their levy system, the money doesn't go into their public school system (one of the worst in the nation)but the superdome sure looks nice. This is what I am getting at, I hate paying taxes because the government both local, state, and national waste your money on trivial things, instead of putting it where it's needed like upgrading things. I wouldn't mind paying taxes if they were put to good use. I know this is a terrible thing to say or imply but this is probably the best thing to happen to New Orleans because we as tax payers will make it better than ever when it gets rebuilt. It's just unfortunate so many had to perish to finally achieve it.

Which foreign countries are going to be coming to our aid? How many millions of of foreign tax dollars are headed our way to help us out? Which foreign government is sending in some disaster workers?

Bowtech 777 it's unfortunate that many more of these events are going to have to happen before the people (the same people referred to as "We The People" in the Constitution of the United States) wake up and smell the coffee and realize Government has gotten way to big, it's time to start doing for ourselves, and it's time to take pride in America again. It's amazing how a natural disaster like what has occurred in Louisiana suddenly empowers people to protect their families, obtain necessities, and do what they gotta do to make it. If only that atitttude was applied in everyday life more people wouldn't have to rely on Uncle Sam to support them.

I simply can not fathom how incredibly inconsistent liberals are on issues and policies? I know rebulicans aren't great either especially ones in Ohio that hmmmmmmmm do a LOT of liberal-like things, but at least they trend toward being a little consistent.
Also, I just gotta say it: For anyone who thinks that our country's mass media(network news, CNN, MSNBC, Dateline....etc) is unbiased then you have your head in a jar or something.

This post probably won't last long, but...
The situation in New Orleans is a perfect example of our country becoming two seperate entities. Our country, by all appearances, has become seperated by race. The normal, responsible segment of society took heed of the lawful orders of the government and evacuated. The other segment decided to stay. I would say looting started when the eye of the hurricane passed by. Now, the left behinds are shooting at the rescue personnel. Call me a racist, but I want nothing to do with helping these people. Send some Iraq vets in there with experience at suppressing hostile fire. Find a good, stable light pole and hang a few looters from it with a cardboard sign around their neck.

My kudos to Steve for alllowing an intelligent, sincere discourse to take place on the general subject without reflexively bowing to the spectre of "political correctness"by censoring the honest or controversial;already being done on several outdoor sites .How pathetic.
While we can try to make ourselves somehow feel better by projecting that those left behind "maybe couldn't leave"-a certainty for some-those that were clearly healthy enough to carry large appliances and huge quantities of other non-perishable goods were not doing so "out of hunger and the result of years of oppression"as Ted Koppel and his guest Branford Marsalis said last night on "Niteline", quickly rushing to excuse the behavior,as their filmcrew desparately looked without success for some racial diversity among the looters.
Tonight's reports now include increasing reports of rapes in and around the Superdome, some at gunpoint.
Hunger, I guess...

I think a few dead looters with coins over their eyes like they did in the old days put on display at the bridges that are still standing ought to get the point across about what will be tolerated. I can understand the looting for food or water but big screen TV's and crap like that give me a break.!!!!Looters should be shot on sight, period, and tagged so they can be identified as looters, and left to lie, the alligators will clean it up eventually. As for the clean up, I have an idea how about putting all those people to work instead of letting them sit around idle, If I was hte governor, if you receive nay kind of public assistance or plan on filing for some you butt will be put to work in the clean up process. If you refuse than you don't get paid, pretty ingenius huh, what a new concept paid for work, the key word being work.

What's really been getting at me is how everyone (the media, local gov. officials, etc.) are blaming the Fed. Gov. for not prividing enough aid soon enough. This is a classic example of America's
McDonald's Syndrome" in that they want everything RIGHT NOW. While I understand completely that people are desperate down there, they also have to realize that the logistics of such a relief effort are huge, and coordinating it takes time to ensure it works smoothly and effectively.
Just look at how many buses are currently sitting outside of the Astro Dome today full of passengers with nowhere for them to go. This happened because out of pure despiration the New Orleans officials are sending everyone they can fit on a bus to Houston without keeping count of how many have already been sent. Since day one when Houston offered it's assistance, they said they could only house soo many people there, but those on the ground in N.O. choose to ignore that fact as long as they can get people out of the city. As a result, many victims had their hopes raised only to be let down when they got to Houston and found they still don't have a bed to sleep in, a hot meal, or a shower.
While I'm on my soap box, I'll also state that I don't think it's right that $10.5 Billion of tax payers money is going towards relief efforts, and surely a lot more in the near future. New Orleans has always been an area known to be succeptable to severe weather and flooding, and the people who live there did so by their own choice. So why should my tax dollars have to go towards paying for their poor decision on where to live? This is what property insurance is for, and is not a responsibility of the Fed. Gov. to finance the rebuilding of private properties. The infastructure is one thing, but that's the only thing tax dollars should go towards IMO.
I say we sell the whole area back to the French and let them deal with it. (payback for not supporting the War on Terror)

I don't fault the people who chose to live there. Hurricanes hit FL, GA, AL, SC, & NC not to mention TX and maybe even VA. So, all those people get no assistance because they chose to live there? Also, has a tornado ever hit near you? Maybe there should be no assistance for that. Hey, in CA they have earthquakes and mud slides and they know about it so no assistance for them. Oh and while were not assisting people for choosing to live in harm's way then the next forest fire in CO will have to burn until there is nothing left to fuel it right? Come on, that is a little unfair. We help each other out. It's what we do in America unlike some other countries. Not that we would expect anything from other countries(and yes I know that sounds conceited but it is what it is) they are sure rushing in with the aid aren't they.
I think the philosophy of close our borders goes against everything our founding fathers fought for and tried to create here in our country. However, I am sick of everyone coming here and demanding it "their" way. It doesn't work like that. If you choose to come to America then how's about you learn OUR language and our customs. If you don't want to and you don't like them then I'm sorry if we hurt your precious little feelings but get out and stay out! I'm done now.

At least the $10.5B is staying in our own country. We have a moral obligation to help the victims, rergardless of our feelings toward their possible refusal and/or inability to leave. And the Federal government is doing the best it can.
I'm happy to see reports that many foreign countries are offering to help. That is very encouraging. In spite of that, however, a full and comprehensive review by our government of current foreign aid policies and practices should be done, and reprioritized. Again, at least the government's aid in this case is staying home.

All those people saying we shouldn't help rebuild New Orleans because it's going to happen again. If thats the case how about Florida? They been hit with numerous hurricanes the last couple of years. Should we not help them anymore? In fact from North Carolina all the way to eastern Texas shoeline, all those areas are going to be hit by hurricanes in the next 20 years. Should all those people move? How long have we been hearing about the "Big One" in California, if and when it happens, oh well, they should have moved, they knew it was coming. Washington State had Mount St Helens, they knew it was going to blow but still some people stayed and payed dearly for it but still help was sent and everything was rebuilt. Here in Ohio we had a blizzard and the government stepped in to help. I guess they shouldn't have because we knew it was going to get cold that winter. Kansas get tornadoes, dumb people why don't they move, they know tornadoes happen there. I'm not seeing how New Orleans is much different.

I have no problem with the federal government funding the disaster area in New Orleans, however to offset that I think there should be a temporary cease to all foreign aid until we figure out what we need to spend to help our fellow americans. Again I think the people of New Orleans should be outraged at their local and state government for not updating or maintaing their levy system. I would be all for an Evacuation of the women and children but the able bodied men need to stay and help rebuild the city, thats also part of being an american. If you so value your freedoms, than a little sweat isn't go to hurt you. It's a small price to pay for the freedoms you take for granted and the new home you are surely going to acquire from the federal government. I agree with the comment above though on the federal subsidizing for housing. There is a reason private insurance companies don't ensure structures built on flood plains, because sooner or later you will be flooded, not if but when. Insurance companies are about calculated risk, there not stupid. But I don't think if you build on a flood plain the government should bail you out, however you could argue that the state government was liable for not ensuring adequate updating of the levy system. As far as closing our borders being against the American way, I have a hard time swallowing that one, we can't continue to have completley open arms, I am only suggesting a temporary closure until we fix the current problems we have with immigration, visa's, and greencards.
