CD, I used to visit my grandmother in the summers and she had black squirrels all over the place. She said they were so mean, no other squirrels would stay around. She lived in the Kent, Oh area.
She said that black squirrels were real prevalent in the N.E. section of Oh.. Sounds like to me you just need to do a public land hunting area search for NE Oh. Good Luck!!

Most of the northern counties around here have black squirrels. I have them in my yard. You can find black squirrel any where there are grey squirrels. A black squirrel is a grey squirrel.

There's 2 of them over by the west side Humane Society in Columbus... They'd probably have a fit if you shot them...LOL!!! I also saw an albino in a neighborhood off Avery Rd. near Hilliard Davidson High School... They'd probably call the cops... LOL!!!

Are you sure about this? I know greys get dark but I think blacks are a whole different sub-species.

Black squirrels are a variety of the eastern grey squirrel, Sciurus carolinensis.

I found this after doing a search and though I would pass it on to you.
The black squirrels that live in Ohio (and elsewhere in eastern and central North America, like Kansas, Iowa, Michigan and Ontario) are actually -- get this -- grey squirrels.
OK, so they are not actually grey in color. But they belong to the same species as the grey ones, Sciurus carolinensis, a.k.a. eastern gray squirrel. Black squirrels simply are melanistic greys. That means their bodies produce lots of melanin, a natural pigment that colors their fur (and also your own skin, hair and eyes, too). A genetic trait, it is passed on to them by their parents.

If I could, I'd suggest Kent State, they're everywhere. But for a significant historical reason, I wouldn't recommend bringing a longarm onto campus!
Auburn Marsh and Hambden Orchard have good black squirrel numbers. I'll be trying Berlin Lake Wildlife Area on Labor Day.

Unfortunately I have yet to see any black squirrels out there.

I took two blacks and two grays out of Hambden one day last year. I haven't been to Auburn in a few years, but had some success there.
Im not into the whole squirrel thing. I like keepin the woods quiet for the other "rodents"
