Athens area ????

Can anyone give me any info on some of the campgrounds and public hunting areas in Athens County? I'm mainly interested in bowhunting somewhere around the 2nd week in November.

Check out Zaleski State Forest! We will be there with a big group at that same time. We will be staying at the Lake Hope cabins and some at the campgrounds. If you are interested in hooking up with us, you are more than welcome. Most of the guys going have been hunting there for about ten years!

What county is Zaleski in? I had a couple of buddies that camped at Lake Hope this past season and I thought it was in Athens. What's the hunting like?

Kalaski forest is located in Vinton county.Like hoyme said come on over and join in there isplenty of room to hunt and thehunting is pretty good just as good as athens county.

I always have had trouble finding the same spot twice man whats up with that i even put up markers and still can't seem to remember.but i know one thing they are all secrets spots.

Heck man i even have put some of my secret spots in those fancy gps units and they seemed to get me lost <heck they can't even remember which direction to travel how am i supposed to remember all i remember is i think this is the tree.

strouds run is outside of athens. and burr oak is near glouster about 10 miles from athens.

George, I've driven through Strouds Run a couple of times. Never had a chance to hunt it or even scout. How's the hunting there? I'm mainly inerested in bow hunting early to mid November. Thanks.

very good hunting there,lots of private land but you can hunt around dow lake and there is a small section of national forest there.i hunt the area but on private land.

Are there any campgrounds with facilities close by???

dow lake is located in strouds run which is about 1 mile or less from athens as the crow flies.it has a primitive style campground and you can hunt right out of.parts of the wayne is within walking distance too.probably light pressure during bowseason as many don,t know about the wayne area there and its tricky getting into.

What would be the closest campground with a shower house? I've been through Stouds Run campground and it looks pretty nice but when I come for a week at a time I would prefer to take hot shower every couple of days. And you don't even want to know about some of the guys I hunt with.:eek:

Hay george have you done much hunting around minker run area in the wayne area hunted this area back when i was in school down there used to be pretty good or does it still get hit pretty hard with all the college boys

no, i know that is up there behind the collegf around mudsock i believe.i hunt down around the movie theater on both sides of 33.
