I remember hearing my dad and his buddies always talking about the good old days of hunting about different fields they used to hunt and how now there are houses there when they used to jump quails and pheseants and rabbits I have seen pics of them behind a truck with the tailgate down and 15 rabbits after a morning hunt with no dogs now i find my self talking the same stuff with my buddies seems that each year there is less and less rabbits kind of sad well i thought i would share my 2 cent

Seems the deer have replaced the rabbits. I see more deer than rabbits everytime any more.

I'm starting to see more rabbits on the property I hunt. We're getting some briars taking over the unused pasture that are to the rabbits liking. We don't hunt rabbits though. We see a lot of hawks so I'm sure they have their share. Not too many coyotes in that area that I've seen.

Rabbits are on the rebound on the land where I hunt, now that the coyotes have been/are being dispatched. Deer aplenty too.

I can remember my dad deer hunting. They used to be able to hunt where ever they wanted back then. There were no permission slips and not near as many houses as there are now. They used to go to deer camp and stay for two weeks in northern Wisconsin. There would be twenty guys or so at camp. The stories when he came home were great.
Now that camp is gone, everything there is built up and hunting places are getting scarce.
AH yes, the good ole days.

your right 15 yrs ago you didn't need no slip dad would take us for a ride and stop at just about any farmers house and ask if we could hunt and they were happy to give permission there was a conversation about 10 or 15 yrs ago and it went something to the tune of "in 10 or 15 yrs from now if you don't own land or belong to a sportsman club all you have to hunt or fish is public land " not that there is anything wrong with public land the state has came along way with its conservation but it's not the same as some of your old favorite spots maybe where you harvested that first deer or was with your child when they got theirs or matbe caught your first largemouth I know the memories live on but it sure woould be nice to take my kids to some of those spots or maybe me and dad going down memory lane on another rabbit or squirrell hunt just get out to the old woods but I guess you got to make new memories to well there's my 2 cents that's probably only worth half of that good luck and keep safe;)

Well this year i'll get to make some memories of my own, I'm going for my 1st deer, and there to share it with me will be my dad and my uncle, and hopefully my other uncle. And when I get 'em i know i'll remember that day for the rest of my life.
But do you think there will always be hunting land, or do you think one day houses and other things will be there??

I think that with the conservation of the state and the help from people like you and me and the others hunters and fishermen that we will have hunting land but like I posted earlier that if you don't own land or belong to an organization (sportsman club, hunting lease ect.)it's only going to get harder and harder every year to find a place to hunt a close friend of mine about 4 yrs ago said that he used to hunt the family farm and always thought that it would be a place he could hunt forever but it seemed that the rest of the family didn't think so and through the leagle system they were able to sell the farm to a realestate company even though he protested he didn't have the money to buy the rest of the family out so he got his share of the money and bought 23 arces not alot of property but no one can take his hunting spot(aslong as he pays his taxes):) big_fish ps hope you do good on your first deer hunt and many memories

I just lucked out to have a cousin with about 1200 acres of corn and soybean farm. However, I have noticed it's hard to get permission on other farms. I think I'm gonna try flirting with farmer's wives and try to get them to give me permission.......
