Squirrel season is always the launch pad for me. I don't squirrel hunt anymore, but if one gives me a shot while I'm out I take it.

I love squirrel hunting. It really gets me pumped for deer. Plus, I always do my deer scouting while squirrel hunting.

That's right. I forgot about bushy tail season. You know, there are some that probably consider "bushy tail" season to be a year round thing, but I reckon they are NOT referring to squirrels either! lol

Nimrod and I always take the first 3 to 4 days off for the opening of squirrel season and head down to the cabin to start the season off! Hunt in the mornings yard sales in the afternoon, then if we have to back in the woods for the evening hunt! What a life!!!!!

Squirrels are extremely easy to clean. Just come down after I shoot a bunch and I will let you clean them all.:D Just joking. But seriously they are easy to clean.
Grab the squirrel on the back in the middle of his body and pull his skin away from his body. ( kinda like a mom cat grabs her kitten except further back) Cut the skin so you can get a couple fingers inside each side of the cut and pull the skin in opposite directions. Then pull his legs through to his wrist and cut the joint. Do this on all four legs. this will leave his feet still attached to the skin. Pull the skin up to his neck and tail and cut the meat not the skin. Then just clean out the guts and rinse. when you are done you should have three pieces of a squirrel. the front half of the skin with the head and front feet still attached, the back half with the tail and back feet still attached and the squirrels body is the third. Any questions?

I made some GREAT squirrel the other day. I made some BBQ sauce with ketchup, brown sugar, franks red hot, liquid smoke, onions, white sugar. I put the squirrel in a crock pot and cooked it on high for 5 hours. man it was great and falling off the bone too!
I cook squirrel in a crock pot for about 5 hours in water too before I dredge in flour, salt and pepper to fry.

Backwoods Bound has some great recipes worth trying. Their website:
http://www.backwoodsbound.com/zsquir.html
I've also parboiled them, cut them up in bite sized pieces, dipped them in batter, and deep-fried them. Voila: Popcorn Squirrel!
Squirrel in Spanish Rice goes on our table from time to time, too.

Can't go wrong with pulled squirrel sandwiches. Cook them in the crockpot with some 7Up and a shot of white vinegar. Cook until meat is falling off the bone. Separate bones and meat. Shread meat with two forks then add your favorite BBQ sauce to meat and mix up. Place on favorite toasted bun with melted swiss cheese and Bamm, Wollah!!!!!!

It wasnt too bad last year in early season. I think I found two warbles. They say they dont hurt the meat but i stay away from that area of the squirrel. As long as theyre not on the hinde legs Im good to go.

No. Dove hunting does not require any state or Federal stamps or other ancillary permits beyond your hunting license. Geese, however, also legal on Thursday, require all that other paperwork.

Thanks Duffy for some reason i thought you needed a federal stamp to hunt dove thats good to hear.

Bring along PLENTY of shells. Those birds are fast! For many, the first day of dove season is more of an excuse to go out and make noise than bring home some tasty morsels, and I have done more than my fair share of "cloud-shooting". But I've been skeet and trap shooting this past summer, so I hope to do a better job in the field this year. It's a lot of fun anyway, and I can't wait to get out!

I usually buy two cases of shells (100 shells each), that hsould be enough to get you started CD!!!!:D

I probably won't squirrel hunt until after deer season.
I've never dove hunted nor know anything about it.
Deer and turkey on the otherhand......the freezer will be full.
Do you need a duck / goose stamp for hunting on your own property as a landowner?

Um..bag limit is 15 on doves guys.
Just got Mommy off this thing and thought I would add my $.02. Cat you got me on that one, I just got my pub. 298 and the limit is 15 a day and 30 possession. First season runs till the 16th of Oct and seconed Nov 13 to 26. You only need what you would for any hunting (hunting lic, landowner ect)
Now for tree rats cooking, put in presher cooker at 10lbs for 10 min, de-bone, mix in large can of mixed veg'ys (drained) and can of cream of mushroom soup. mix 2 cups biscquick (about like pancake mix) put first mix in 9x13x2 cake pan and poor biscquick over the top of it all. Cook till top is golden brown and serve.
Now for dove, take the meat off the breast, lay one down and place a hot pepper on top and a chunk of cheese on top of that, cover that with other slice of breast. pin with toothpick. Make a batter like for mushrooms and dip, deep fry till done.
