My pop and another retired old GM "fart" have been killin BIG bluegills at several lakes in SW Ohio and eastern Indiana the last couple of weeks! These guys are fishing machines, fish almost every day from Feb to July, then start up in Sept again...even do that ice thing from time to time!?!?!
We went Saturday (dad & I) and brought 53 'Gills home all over 9" and most were males....females still haven't layed eggs yet!?!?! Bait of choice has been the usual for us....cricketts and a "bb" split shot rigged about 12" from the bait (NO FLOAT). We caught hundreds in the 6-8" range but we only keep the HAWG's when we 'Gill hunt!:D :D :D
