Does snow help or hinder ice conditions? Will ice continue to thicken in the below freezing temps if it is covered in snow?
Basically, how does a snow cover effect the ice?

Snow is the worse case scenario for good ice.... be very careful when going out on snow covered new ice!!

As of yesterday the ice, in a small pond that I fish, was between 4 and 5 inches. With the snow covering it. I had to chip a hole in it with a hammer to measure(I don't have an auger yet).
