Well after sitting outside in the pouring rain and 40s last saturday i check out the weather report for this saturday and hear....
Cloudy. Showers and thunderstorms likely in the morning...then a chance of showers in the afternoon. Highs around 60. Chance of rain 70 percent.
The birds didnt gobble in the rain so I wonder how they'll react in a thunderstorm...

Suppose to rain all weekend. I have only been out twice this season, Mon and Wed opening week. I plan on getting out several days next week when the weather clears up some.

I was all set to go out in the rain this weekend (and still am). Wasn't too upset because the forecast was for highs near 60. Hey, I can handle that. Now they have dropped the high temps for Saturday by 10 degrees (highs near 50) and calling for a rain/snow mix Saturday night. I HATE 40-something degrees and rain. Blaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh! Winds on Saturday are also supposed to be 20-25 mph. Maybe not as bad as last weekend with the snow, but this is not good. Well, I guess we have to take what we get. I cleared out some spots yesterday evening along a greenfield where I have seen a tom strutting this past week. Let's hope he is using that field this weekend in the rain.

Yeah - know what you mean - i was up to your area yday hunted dorset off footville road - (talked to the game warden a few days ago and he said they are going to put a parking lot in on footville road - so the hunting pressure will probably increase in that area ) - they called for rain in the afternoon but as you know the rain and wind came in about 8:30 and it just got miserable - heard and saw zip -
well they are calling for a high of 60 and sun tuesday in your area so maybe i will try again - gotta vote in my township on tues so will hunt - take my gun home cuz i have to vote at the school and go vote - just getting burned out getting up so early and then having such bad weather -
stay safe

They changed it to rain on saturday and a chance of rain on sunday but a bit colder so I believe we are going out on Sunday morning instead of Saturday morning. Hopefully the toms will be talking this time and I'll be able to get one. I think its just a matter of time for me because I always see one almost every time i hunt.

My brother and I braved the TERRIBLE conditions last Sunday (20-25 mph winds, 2 in. of snow on the ground and snow/rain falling...the kind that stings your face like a mf). After doing a little walking and listening (hearing nothing), we decided to set up in a run down old shack in a bottom clearing. We put out 3 decoys and sat down. We really did not expect much...we liked the spot b/c we could get out of the weather!
Well, we were sitting in there calling (I was teaching my brother how to call) sporadically, mostly soft. After about 40 minutes, I hear a few hens "kee-ing" about 100 yds. away. I kept calling and they really turned it up. All of a sudden, a gobbler let lose and continued to do so for about 10 minutes! We kept calling softly and it sounded like about 20 hens and 1 gobbler (he was quite a ways away from the hens). Anyway, the hens eventually went quiet and the gobbler did too. About 10 minutes later, he comes walking into our clearing about 80 yds away! BEAUTIFUL bird...11 in. beard, fat and full! He proceeded to strut, spit and drum (it looked like...we could not hear him in the wind, snow) for about 50 minutes!!! He never got closer than 70 yds. and I began to realize he must have a hen or two with him out of site. All of this happened at the peak of the weather....miserable!!
Well, as it turns out...he did have 2 hens and they moseyed away. It was an AWESOME site...he showed off for every bit of 50 minutes!
Point is, the weather was as bad as it can be and they still sounded off and eventually came in. Like many people have said on this great site...can't kill one on the couch!

I'm headed down to SE Ohio for the first turkey hunt of the year. If by some slim chance its not raining I'll take the video camera with me and play caller. If its raining, I'll be gun toting. Hope to hear my first gobble in between rain drops this Sat.

I've been lucky on the weather. The only days I've been able to hunt so far were Monday and Thursday which while unproductive have at least been dry.
Got there a little late Monday. and then the wind picked up and never heard a bird after 7:00. Then yesterday had a beard gobble for an hour and 45 min. straight only problem he was on the other side of the road where I can't hunt. Only heard one turkey that even made a cluck after 8:00. at least I found some morels. I'll post the pics to the Morel thread tonight. :p
Next day off is Monday and fore cast is looking dry again maybe I can find some birds!!
