fished the big stillwater creek this evening with my son josh from around 7:30 to 9:00 pm. we were after channel cat, i wasnt sure if they were hitting yet and ive got a catfish tournament this weekend, so we gave it a shot. about 15 minutes after we casted in, i had a decent run on chicken liver, i set the hook hard and MISSED !!! well that stinks but at least i know they ARE biting. well we fished about a half an hour with no bites and josh had a pretty light bite that he missed. about 10 minutes later another light biter again and josh misses him too. By this time its getting close to dark and the wind is blowing and im cold , i noticed my line dropping alot of slack in so i picked up the rod and the line started tightening up fast, i set the hook and immediately knew that i hung a good fish. of course it headed straight for some brush along the bank, i managed to fight it throough the branches and close enough to see and it was a beauty. i landed the BEAST got a good measurement and weighed it on my digital scale and it weighed 9 lbs 6 oz, not bad for my first cat of the year !!! sorry no pictures , out of film !! we stayed another half an hour with no luck !!!:)
