With an early start of April 18th,what's everones prediction as far as what the hunting will be like? Will the birds be talkative,co-operative,be henned up,have lockjaw,or seem as if they fell of the face of earth?I'm guessing they'll gobble pretty good on the roost, weather permitting, then go silent because of hens.Don't even think late morning will be that good for another week or so,with more nesting hens.

i think the older birds will really not be ready for hunters trying to trick them. It always seems like the older birds are showing themselves alot right before season and then once season comes in they vanish. Well, this year season starts a week early, so if the same holds true, those same big birds are going to get one heck of a surprise.

They will be gobbling and knowing me, I will be snoring. I am known to sleep while hunting. I can't get out til the weekend but will be with great friends so I will be enjoying it no matter what happens.

I'm hoping for rain all weekend or at least in the mornings.

Tomorrow is our opener. If it rains in the morning then there won't be that many hunters in the woods. I won't be able to go, except for a mabye and afternoon hunt. However, I've taken Monday off and hopefully the majority will be at work. ;)

I would have to hate to predict the opening day. I have taken off work for the opener. Hopefully there won't be that many people out the first day. That is to say, it should less crowded than the following Saturday.
There are alot of variables. Other hunters, weather and so on.
I will be glad if I see any at all. Hopefully they will be where I have seen them before.
Good luck to all

When I was stationed in South Carolina I would leave my house at 0300 so I could be there by 0400. If you worn't at your hunting spot by 0430 or 0500 you were outta luck because someone else would already be there. It was also not uncommon for people to park their trucks at the front of a food plot and camp out too.

Last year on opening day I had three gobblers coming my direction when a trespasser got in between them and me. Opening day was a flop.

My opening day prediction, like every year......
At opening light I will hear 10-12 gobbles from every direction. I will select one gobble and move in. Within an hour after fly down, I will have one called in and killed. The Toms won't be henned up as they have been in the past. Thank you ODNR for moving the season up one week.

I'm hoping they gobble good, we get one to work us, the weather is good, and there is not 10 other guys on the same hill we are on;)

"would have to hate to predict the opening day. I have taken off work for the opener. Hopefully there won't be that many people out the first day. That is to say, it should less crowded than the following Saturday."

The first day is going to be a mess. Trespassers out in full force and there will be an increase in the owl population. Still wouldn't miss it for the world.

My prediction for my opening day (Saturday): I will walk up to my hunting spot to find a trespasser with a ground blind in the field behind me (was there two years ago) so I will have to go to a different spot...and stick it to a guy named TOM

Dont forget the 'yutes will be out the 16th, 17th. If my area doesn't get stirred up too bad during the youth season, opening day should be good, lots of birds around.

Opening day on a monday stinks....I am not that excited about the Ohio opener.I am excited about the PA opener though. I always get a nice Gobbler in the big woods of PA. In Ohio you have too many trespassers and call crazy guys trying to call the birds over to there property that the birds get so call shy it isnt even funny.

This will be an interesting first day of the season. If the "typical" pattern stays as in past years, the first week will be pretty slim pickings on my farm. Saw the winter flock that lives across the road today. What a beautiful sight they were. About 50 birds out in a green field with at least 12 strutting gobblers. These birds are hanging out on a property where the owners allow NO hunting at all. When the flock breaks up, they will scatter to the all the neighboring farms. For the past 5 years, this break-up has occured sometime between April 20 and April 24th. Until that time, there are only a random few turkeys moving through my farm. With the opener on April 18th, if things are not different this year, the first day could be a yawner.

Turkey hunting does not get really good here until the second and third weeks of May. Unfortunately this year, the last week of the season is the second week of May. Just when it starts getting good, it will be over. Oh well, I feel blessed just to have the opportunity to get out in the woods. That is always a good thing.
