went fishing this evening at a local pond with my daughter jessica, she is 8 yrs old. we decided to go for bass and bluegills, she quickly caught 2 small bluegills on red worms, i fished about a half hour without a bite on a white 4 inch tube bait so i decided to try one of the new strike king bleeding bait tubes (4 inch) watermelon with red tips. also was throwing a 4 inch gold jerkbait by bass pro shops, cuaght one nice 14 inch largemouth on the third cast with the jerkbait fishing on the windblown shore. a couple casts later , i missed one about the same size. i decided to see if jessica wanted to try the jerkbait for awhile, she surprised me and said she would !! she fished about a half an hour and caught her FIRST largemouth on a lure a scrappy 11 inch fish, she is so PROUD !! pics will be posted soon !! well i fished down a rocky stretch of shore had a nice hit on the tube and set the hook, the line sizzled through the water and broke !!! man i was mad !! it was definitely a big fish !! so i retied and fished down more of the rocks and caught a fat 13 inch largemouth on the tube !! i fished on down the rocks with jessica tossing the jerkbait and me fishing the tube and got another nice hit on the tube, i set the hook and saw it was a BIG fish when it rolled next to the bank, i yelled for help and realized i didnt have my son with me for help , when suddenly down over the bank goes jessica. She looks up at me and says bring him closer dad I'll lip him for you !! I figured what the heck i wasnt gonna do it myself so i fought the fish closer and it opened its mouth and jessica lipped it like a pro. she could barely lift it up over the bank to me , but she managed !! I got good measurements and 2 pictures and released it. it was a 22 inch Largemouth, thats my biggest in about 10 years !!! I'll post the pics as soon as i get them developed !! i asked jessica how in the heck she knew to lip that fish and she said remember dad you showed me when i caught my bass !! Good thing she is a quick learner !! i dont know if i'm prouder of the fish or the way she handled herself tonight !! she definitely came along way in her bass fishing tonight !!
