Come on folks it's almost that time. Let's get to trading all that info on where when and how! But most of all someone tell us when the first one is found. Then we know it's time to get busy.
I know this is not turkey talk but but most of us will be scouting
out there and will have the best chance of seeing the first offerings

This is the first year i've found ramps in my woods. I couldn't believe when I saw them!!! I came through the door and called to my wife, "I FOUND 'EM", she said "what, some sheds?" I pulled that little ramp outta my pocket and she said "Oh no!!" I stuck the whole thing in my mouth and chewed it up and proceeded to chase her around the house...we call that West Virginia foreplay ;)

hey sarge, they are like a wild onion. Small little bulbs but man they pack a punch. Strong smell.

A Ramp is a member of the onion family, sort of a "wild onion". They are a thousand times stronger than any onion or garlic plant you have ever tasted. If you eat enough of them (just a handfull actualy) your SKIN will smell like ramps and the stench will oooze out of every gland of your body. They usualy grow along creek banks, and have a slender stem with a single medium broad green leaf at the top. They grow in bunches like mayapple, or yellowroot. Eating them raw is the "macho" way. but sauted' in butter with some mushrooms (morels if ya got um) and eaten over a good ribeye is the best way to enjoy them. Raw over a fried red ring bologna sandwich is another good way to eat them.Diced and topped over a good batch of soup beans is another good way to eat um. I am from southeast Ohio, but I now live in central Ohio and I'll be danged if I can find any ramps up here, so I think they grow more twords the south?? WV is the un-official "Ramp Capital of the World"!!! Them boys and sometimes gals love their ramps!!! As one old snaggled tooth hillbilly in Tucker County once told me once their "good fur yur innards"!!!!

I live in north central Ohio and I find ramps in the woods alot of the time. I like to pull them up and eat them raw. My wife sure hates it though.

We hunt the Pigeon River area near Vanderbilt. We camp along the black river in tin shanny road. Nothing like fresh brrok trout and fresh shrooms!
