The website is www.maumeetackle.net.
I went up on Monday at Buttonwood Park and caught 2 suckers by the mouth annd 2 Walleye that were snagged. Went up Wednesday and got one walleye by the mouth and snagged a couple others. Lost on other one by the mouth. Thursday had the same results. One by the mouth and several "snagged" fish. Friday was a different story with the warmer temps helping. I manged to catch my limit of 3 in about 2 1/2 hours and my buddy caught 2 legal walleye. We definately need this rain this weekend to bring the water levels up. The river needs to rise ro bring up some fresh runs. I'll head up again on Monday and probably fish everyday next week. I only have access to the in-laws computer right now so I'll post more resulys when I'm able.

Thanks for the update Redhunter. I haven't been out yet. I would like to get up there some time this week and fish the Maumee. Maybe I could come up Friday afternoon. Let me know if you can show me where to go and how to approach getting in the river and a good place to set up. I have never fished the Maumee and would love to try it.

I'll probably fish there all week weather permitting. CG, if you come up I can show you the in's and out's. I almost always fish Buttonwood Park. If the river is high I'll fish Orleans park. Right now I'm only able to use the In-laws computer which is 20 miles away, so I'll try to update sometime this week and set something up if you want. Best advice I can give you ahead of time is to pick up some floating jigheads that are the same size as a 1/4 oz lead head. Chartreuse green tails usually a good bet. Different assortment of split shots.

My friend and I fished on Monday and he caught one legal fish. We caught 7 snagged fish and numerous others that got off. Tuesday my Dad tagged along and we had the exact same results as Monday with me catching the legal fish. Talked to some other friends up there and they said the fishing really picked up for an hour Monday at 5:00 pm. A few limits picked up in that hour. Took a break today due to the weather. We need all the precipitation we can get, and a little warm weather to raise the water temp. I'll trya again Thursday and Maybe Friday depending on weather. Most fish being caught up there right now are being caught on medium sized floating jigheads with 3 inch chartruese twister tails.

Thanks for the update Redhunter. I will not make it up tomorrow. I hope to get up there the following weekend, though I would like to see a warm spell and maybe a little warm weather rain(that really helps raise water temps).
I am probably going up to Port Clinton a week from Saturday(1st Sat in April) with my uncle to bring his boat up to the lake. He is having a new transducer installed. Anyway, I might talk him into fishing the river for a bit. I'll let you know if we decide to hit the river.

CritterGitter, good thing you didn't head up today. Between the freezing rain, snow, and regular rain, the fishing was tough. Yesterday I went up with my friend and caught my limit of walleye in about 1 1/2 hours on a chartruese floater with 3" chartreuse tail. He was stand right beside me and never caught a legal fish. Today we caught 5 snagged fish and Alex lost a legal fish when he was about to grab it. If you want to see my picture go to www.maumeetackle.net and click on river update and on the left hand side I'm the first single person with 3 fish on a stringer. Grey parka and dark blue hat and red beard.

FINALLY!!
We really need this rain, snow, whatever it is! I'll be waiting till Monday to head back up there but I'll post my results. Hopefully I'll be bragging about how many fish I caught and how fast I got them. I think the fishing is really going to pick up with the precipitation and warmer temps.

Walleye fishing on the Maumee River is excellent! Caught My limit every day this week with many other anglers doing the same. Big females are in also. Yesterday the big fish really started showing up at Buttonwood Park where I fish. I brought home an 8 pound female, and 4 and 5 pound males. I've been culling alot of fish after I get my limit. Today at 11:00 a.m. I had a 10-12 lb female in the mouth get off because of an inconsiderate fisherman beside me wouldn't move his net out of the way and my lure snagged his net and the fish got away. He didn't even offer to net it for me! I've seen several 12 plus pounders caught this week and heard of a 14lb female weighed in at the bait shop. We've been getting up there at 6:30 a.m. to get a good spot but it's still packed. Today I brought home 3 males that averaged about 4lbs apiece. Caught my first 3 legal fish in about 30 minutes today. I'll be there tommorrow at the same time. Saturday I'll be there earlier if possible with my father in law, but I know it'll be a madhouse.

Redhunter, I have a couple friends that were interested in going to Freemont on Sunday. I am going to try to talk them into going to Maumee. Can you fish Sunday morning? If so, let me know(I'll send a pm).
Also, what is the rig with the floating jigs? I have always used the old ball leadhead and twister tail, but I understand that is yesterday's method. So, do you use a 3 way swivel with light ball sinker and then tie the floating jig so if the ball sinker snags up you only lose the ball sinker? Do you tip it with a twister, a minnow, or nothing? Let me know.
Talk to you later.

CritterGitter, sorry I can't fish sundays. I normally don't fish saturdays but the wife says it's OK since her Dad asked me to go. What you want is the medium sized round floaters with 3" tails. Red and chartreuse green heads with chartreuse green tails have always produced for me. Pink or white tails are doing well also. I just tie my line to the floater and use split shots about 20" up above. I think it's easier than the egg sinker because I can adjust my weight or the leader length alot easier to find what the fish want. Usually you only lose your lures anyways if you break off. Just dont use spiderwire or fireline if you use my method cause you'll be there all day long trying to break it free. If you use the egg sinker metod be sure to tie your leader with 10-12 lb mono.

Thanks for the directions! A split shot about 20" above the floater jig sounds good. Also, thanks for the directions. I guess it's supposed to be chilly on Sunday morning, but I still plan to fish some provided the river doesn't come to high with this rain. I will shoot for about 6:00 or 6:30am on Sunday which will be tough with the time change. I'll have to go to bed at about 8pm on Saturday evening.
Thanks again!

Caught my limit today but overall had a bad day. First got to the parking lot at The river and realized I forgot my stringer so I had to buy one. Went to the spot where me and a few others fish everyday and was told by an outta' stater that I need to learn some river courtesy because I got in between him and his buddie who were 12 feet apart. I simply replied by asking to shake his hand. When he was dumbfounded I told him I always wanted to meet the owner of the River. Then the pin on the handle of my Mitchell 300X fell out so I had to break a piece of hook and force it in there and cinch it down. Then after I caught my fish I was walking out and my loop on my vest that I hook my stringer to ripped away. Lucky my friend was only a couple feet downstream and caught my fish. Other than that the fishing is excellent and should be getting better.

I don't think I am going to make that drive on Sunday. Supposed to blow hard all day tomorrow out of NE. That would muddy up the river not to mention the rain and spittin snow this evening. Anyway, a vacation day may be in store for next week as I am itching to get up there and I figure the crowds would be less during mid-week.

Well, the plan was to head up there and be at the river before sunrise this morning. At about 4:00 am we began to rethink that decision. We're still considering heading up there in this monsoon. With the wind I think we would be forced to use a 1/4 oz lead head with some added weight above it. I'll post our results if we decide to get stupid.

Just got back from the Maumee. I caught my limit and my father in law caught 1. My biggest was a 29" female with a metal tag in her mouth. My first fish ohio of the year! She was over half way spawned out already. She weighed 8 1/2 lbs.

I didnt make it. All that wind and rain I said no way. The weather for Wed thru Fri looks shaky and I am going to be on the Maumee bay on Saturday if the weather holds. I think I will try to fish the river on Monday or Tuesday about a week from today.

3 fish limits on Monday, Tuesday, and today. From sunrise to 8:30 am seem to be the hottest times. After that it gets a little spotty. Later in the evening seems to pick up. Chatruese green and chartreuse pink seem to be working great. Orange and white are also producing. I have caught some on black and silver sassy shads also. I'll be hitting it again tomorrow and Friday.

Went fishing yeserday with my friend and today with friend, dad, and father in law. Everyone caught limits both days. Early morning seems to be the ticket. The bite seems to really slack off afyter 8:30 am. I'll be hitting it again tomorrow. This year I seem to be wearing a sign that says "Hey, stupid people, stand next to me!" It never fails, the person who doesn't know how to cast seems to always find a spot next to me. After constantly getting untangled from their line I'll nicely make a suggestion and usually get a nasty reply. Ahh, such is life on the Maumee River.

The father in law, sister in law, and myself went at daybreak again. Man, what a difference from a day ago. Fishing was slim to none this morning with a only few fish being caught between a couple hundred fishermen. I managed to get my limit within 1 1/2 hours. The river is steadily dropping and everybody is casting out too far. I had to wait 30-45 seconds in betwwen casts so I could cast up short without getting tangled. The first 2 fish were on a chartruese green floater with solid chartruese green tail. The last fish was same head but a white and pink combo tail. I added a little more weight than yesterday cause the water temperature dropped alot overnight and I figured the fish would be a little sluggish. I think that's what made the difference for me. We need a little rain to bring the levels back up but we're not supposed to get any till' wednesday I think. If it comes down more I'll be able to fish a couple spots that I know I'll tear them up with low levels. I'll be back up there on Monday.

Caught 2 fish on Monday. It was really slow for everyone. On Tuesday, more fresh fish began to show up at Buttonwood. Dad, Myself and my friend all got limits plus I culled 2 fish. Today we all got limits and dad and I culled a bunch of fish. Red floaters with chartruese green glitter tails seemed to work the best. More fish are being caught overall.

I caught my limit on thursday, although I really had to work for them. We caught 6 legal walleye overall. Friday we caught our limitsm within an hour and a half. More fish being caught every day. Been getting alot of fish on 5/16oz leadheads with chartuese tails. Decided against fishing today because of the walleye derby up there. Too many people. Overall fishermen numbers are way down. Will be up there tomorrow.

Caught our limits every day we went up this week. I had to start back to work on Monday so I went after work. No more morning fishing for me. It's really tough being off from Thanksgiving day and doing everything you want then having to go back. Such is the life of a part time professional hunter/fisherman. lol
