recover from it's downward spiral?
Over the last few months this site has been steadily heading South. The majority of the bad threads have revolved around crossbows and I believe I'm the one who started the first thread that got outta hand. For that I apologize, I was just screwing around with friends. That thread seemed to be a virus that turned into a major discease that has begun to tear this website apart.
Now that I got that out of the way, I've spoken with several of the original members and regular posters who are bailing because this website just isn't fun anymore.
Mabye it's time we all took a deep breath and chilled out for a while. Turkey season is right around the corner so we'll soon be able to take out our aggressions by hunting and killing a few gobblers vise each other....:D ;)

I would hope that no one would leave this site. I agree with TF, we should just have fun here and make this an enjoyable place to be. I am sure that we can do that and I sure will do my best to make that happen.
If I have offended anyone here, then I appoligize. I hope that we can all just get along and look forward to the hunting seasons that are coming.
Lets all try and make this happen. I think that OhioSportsman.Com is a great site and I sure would hate to see anything happen to take away from that.

Easy TF. You gotta rememebr what it looks like outside here in Ohio. COLD and SNOW covered.
It called cabin fever, bro. And what's more fun than a spirited debate when you can't go do what you want to do?
I just wish that some degree of maturity would take hold and allow guys to be spirited and disagree.
It's the friggin, internet for cryin' out loud. Some people need to grow some skin and be men. Everyone needs to stop being such a NANCY!!!! Someone doesn't like you or disagrees with you....SO WHAT!!! Who cares? Life goes on. Be a man, for Pete's sake.
Now some guys stir up trouble just for the sake of stirring up trouble. (and no, TF, your original X-bow post isn't the only time you've done that). But you know what, that's OK. It is what it is. Your like the paprika on the chili. Without it, the soup is bland.
I don;t stir up trouble just for kicks, but I will certainly strongly represent my opinion when I disagree with someone.
NOW, if that kind of exchange is going to be surpressed, than yes, this may be a sinking ship. But more than likely what you are seeing is some restless fellas that need to go out and throw some lead and when the sun decides to come out and stay, life around here will resume to it's ho-hum status.

Does http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/index.html have the same problem?

Did I miss the moment when we started caring about the state up north?;)

I live 2 miles from the state up north, and also hunt and fish up there. I was just curious if they had this problem? ;)

I haven't bailed!!!
I have been busy since that darn ice storm in January. The place I work got hit pretty hard and since the majority of our property is wooded we have a serious mess to clean-up.

I love this site, I think it will be fine. The problem is right now there isn't much to do up here and some people me thinks are getting a little cranky, me included..ask my wife. I feel bad for CR, I dont know him personally and I know he doesn't need(or prob WANT) anyone stickin up for him but he seems like a good guy who IMO did nothing wrong. Anywho, I think I heard a redwing blackbird the other day, and the geese are paired up:)

I don't know anything about a "downward spiral". I have checked out alot of forums and this is a fine one. The folks here are great and we really don't need to agree. If we did I would wonder what was in the water. In my opinion open means open, but not combative.
If people bail then so be it, I don't know about other folks, but I would like to know if someone is bowing out for one reason or another so we can say goodbye.
This is "The Ohio Hunting Forum". Others have different focus, or are national in scope. I personally like the regional flavor.
I'm an Ohio boy. You'll find me on other forums under the same user name, or "Revival". Other forums are fine, but I'm not leaving this one until it shuts the doors.
Super large forums stink too. Sure there are plenty of posts, but you lose the personal "family" nature and get lost in the masses.

This is the site as far as I'm concerned. I would hate to see any one bail. A family will fight at times. But will usually make up. I'ts nice to see one of the seinor members taking the high road to start the healing. As aluded to this is a bad time of year. People are cooped up, and needing to be outdoors. After all were outdoorsmen. Let's concentrate on that. Turkey and fishing is right around the corner.

A week ago there were no problems at all. Things were cool. I'm not going to let the actions of one ruin it for all of us. I'm sticking around. I hope the members that said they were going to leave decide otherwise. I feel as if I've developed some frienships on here and I'm not going to let that fade away because of what happened.

That is what brought me here to begin with as well.
I say, "stick it to THE MAN." (Hopefully you've seen the movie "School of Rock" and understand the humor.
This doesn't mean I plan an electronic hand shake with Super Moderator.

Hmm, maybe this electronic handshake idea will take off....
Hey, this site is a great place to be. I enjoy it thoroughly.

I'm also not going to let the actions of one ruin this site, actions that could have very possibly cause a liability to this site and endangered a childs life in the process. I'm past it and I expect others to move past it to better things, if you can't well the best advice I could possibly give you is to seek help somewhere else. But I'm here to stay whether you like it or not, so someone is going to have to get used to it.
Your correct in your assumption not to plan an electronic handshake with just any Super Moderator. If your referring to this Super Moderator, I only shake hands like a man and no other way. I take it like a man as I have always have, like the old saying goes if you want to talk the talk you got to walk the walk and I have lived my life that way for more years than some members here have been alive.
If nothing else I say gets thru to any of you just remember this, I walk the walk therefore I can talk the talk. And when I get to old for either, I'll fade away and pass the torch to someone else who I feel can do the same as I have throughout life. Until then I plan as I have always done since I have been a member here and that is to use this site in a productive manner and continue to do my job as a moderator. I hope others can do the same.

OK, I can't take it anymore. I MUST know.
What penal code is it that allows a public forum website to be held responsible for the actions that someone may take due to the content posted by an individual poster?
Isn't there some kind of blanket relief of liability that the operators of the forum are not responsible for the content of the materail posted by the members? There must be, right?
I swear I'm not being a smartypants on this one. I am genuinely interested in the legal responsibilities of the "site".

I'm fairly new to the site and have been telling others of the site. I thought/think it is a very good site. Like Andy said, cabin fever and message boards tend to get crazy during the winter. So for what it's worth , there is no problem with the site as I see it.
There is ALOT of good info here still. And good people from what I can tell

There is no penal code, it's called litigation. Lawyers these days are just looking for an excuse to jump on something of this nature if it were to happen. One thing that cannot be comprehended is how a jury will react if it ever came to that. I'm not an attorney so I can't explain the legalities of it but it has happened before and it will happen again as long as we have people out there hellbent on destroying sites like this and the sportsmans way of life. I hope this clarifies it a little better for you.
Why take the chances, we got it hard enough the way it is to keep what rights we do have as sportsmen and women. If we show a continious positive light, that gives any anti that much less ammunition to fire at us.

I guess I missed it. I guess that is a good thing. I tend to visit this sight during the hunting time of year. Then during the summer I spend a lot of time on the gardening and homesteading sights.
I have seen a post or two about I'm leaving or something like that. Well I don't know if you were a good guy or bad guy in this up roar! If you are a good guy don't go, if you are the bad guy SEEE YA!
As far as ARCHERY goes I can't believe how petty some people are! I shoot Traditional equipment. SO WHAT!!! Go ahead and shoot what ever you want to. Have FUN. NO BODY ON THIS SIGHT HUNTS DEER TO SURVIVE. IT IS A SPORT, A RECRATION! The only reason we have these arguments is because we are afraid someone is going to shoot "MY" buck.
I hunt with a bow, shot gun, muzzleloader and handguns. I will hunt with what I want to when I want to and how I want to as long as the law alows!
If this sight goes under because of this little spat then so be it. But I don't think we have anything to worry about.

What's with all the focus on negativity? First of all, if you think this site is going down then jump ship. Go have fun over on the bowfight site. I don't care. This site is great now, has been great in the past and it will be great in the future. It might not have as many active threads right now, as it did this time last year, but SO WHAT! People come and people go. The economy roars and then it eases back. As for spats, it is part of life. Someone already said that even families will have arguments and such. It's human nature. This site and our outdoor heritage will be around for a long long time regardless of what some individuals may think or say. I don't discredit those individuals for their thoughts, but I think they ought to rethink them!
:D

the issue is burried with me too. just dont want too see the site go under i like the site.

Dudes!! We all need to chill (myself included). Let's all understand that we all have our preferences regarding methods of hunting and that's OK. What ever is set up through the ODNR is within the confines of the law, shouldn't be argued amongst HUNTERS. Let's leave our differences of opinion to ourselves, and try to help one another become more proficient with persuing the game that we're after.
God bless,
