I kick around a few different sites that reflect my outdoor pursuits. I suppose I've been around here for a couple years or so. Each site has it's ups and downs in regards to posts and content. Obviously, each individual is going to have diverse ideas and opinions and unique ways of conveying those ideas.
The difference between what I perceive to be a good site and a bad site has always been the moderators, and their level of involvement in the content of the site.
I see this forum as having just taken a turn towards the negative with a recent thread and the level of interaction with a moderator. Obviously, I'm talking about the posted picture of the kid with the gun to the head.
Let me start by saying that I completely respect the fact that the moderator saw the materail as "poor taste" and chose to delete it. I don't know if I completely agree with his opinion, but I respect his intentions. IF the moderator's original reply was his only one on the topic, than I'm OK with that. However, he continued to rant, berate, disrespect and began name calling.
"Showing a picture with a gun pointed to your head only shows ignorance and that your not totally balanced, ask any shrink they will tell you that you should be committed for possible mental defects."
This is where you started to lose me. Instead if sticking to your point, defending YOUR actions, or explaining why the poster's ACTIONS were in poor taste, you take a turm down the personal attack highway.
"I don't piss and moan everytime I read something that I don't like that you members write, I don't abuse my status as a moderator here. Did you ever think thats why I'm in this position as moderator. I let you guys go on and on when most of the time when your ranting is senseless just like it is now."
Again. you're losing respect with each keystroke. "Piss and moan", I think right after you say that you talk about EACH person beig an ambassador of the site.
"And to think I fought for some of you peoples rights, where the hell were you when I was getting shot at and crawling in holes in the jungle to root out the enemy and crawling around in the sand to keep your rights as Americans. I'll tell you where most of you were , you were setting on your asses back home bitching about the bull**** your bitching about now. Yea I'm an anti, I'm anti of people who think they have a right to publish content that might possibly cause children harm when they have never lifted a finger in their life to defend their country or walk in the shoes that many of us have served to give you the right to live in a free country."
Ummmmmm, what? Is your point that I have NO RIGHT to an opinion because I haven't served my country? Give me a break. You have now stepped WAAAYYYY over the boundary of moderator to just another ranting, incoherent babbler whose arguement is based on connecting invisible dots.
If I had served, then can I post controversial pictures? Can you? I'm confused as to what your service to our country has anything to do with what was being talked about.
Does your service to our country give you a free pass to use **** for cuss words. How about me. Can I say BULL***** and still be an embassador of the site? Or are the "*" reserved for those that have served?
BTW, the "Bull**** and bitching" choice of words, VERY NICE for the youngsters for whom you have professed to be working on their behalf.
" Thats typical of a 23 year old person, you have never lived life to see that your actions here might have an adverse effect on the children that visit here. I am here to protect children from things like this so get used to it, if you don't like it move on down the road."
Consistency seems to be your forte, Supermoderator.
Good luck with the whole moderator thing. You seem to have a knack.
