Friday morning, I counted 18 doe(or button bucks) and 3 bucks. I shot at and missed a small doe. An hour later, I shot a nice doe. I grabbed the land owner and we looked for hours. Couldn't find her. We did find another doe. I couldn't tell what caused her demise. We also found a small four point buck(bones) He had a carbon arrow near him. I couln't find a point in him.

Monday afternoon, I spotted at least 6 doe. There were more but I couldn't see them. Tuesday morning, I saw one spike buck.

Still bowhunting, but with no luck. Hopefully, I can fill the urban and the statewade that I have in my back pocket before it's over. I know that's a tall order, but will give it my all. Regardless, it's been a good season with two deer in the freezer!

I've hung up the bow and have been chasing ducks exclusively. But of course I still keep an eye on my spots and have been spying does feeding in the evenings.
If I was still looking to fill a tag, I think this would be a great time to get out of the treestand and get mobile. The rain would mask any scent or noise and then it would just be a matter of sneaking around without being seen.

Well I ty for all your responses hopefully get out today if this rain ever stops.Went out monday drove 35 minutes to my hunting area.I got out and got dressed and was going to put my coveralls on my stand to carry in and I forgot them in the dryer at home.I was not a happy camper,I saw fresh sign where they been crossing the road in the evening..Oh well this happens once a season .I will hit it hard in another week for 5 days. Then get ready for fishing and shed hunting...

I have gone out several times this last 10 days ,seen several doesand 1 buck .
The buck was the only 1 I could have shot but I all ready have my buck for the year.
I was out in the snow Sat. am and had a 4 does walk 10 yds out but could not see well enough because of the snow falling to shoot.

Went out last night after work. Got with in seeing distance of my stand at 4:20 and then I caught movement down in the creek below my stand. Their's one, two ,three, four ect....7 Doe's. I had to watch from about 100 yds away as they browsed 20-30yds past my stand into the hay field. After that I scouted / still hunted /anter hunted. I did see another group of Doe's on the other side of the farm but that was abotu it. They really seemed to be moving in my area. I'll try again this weekend.

Was preparing to go out tonight but the weather is not going to cooperate. Looks like it'll be decent for the next 5-7 days. So I'll try it on friday evening. It'll be interesting to see how many deer have survived two wars, getting knocked in the head by falling limbs, or now drowning. I went grouse hunting this weekend and it is amazing how many limbs fell out of the trees during the ice storm.

In case no one else is seeing the trend.....
It sure looks like there's steady doe movement in the last hour of daylight. Most likely back on a normal feeding pattern.
For those who are still looking for antlers, it's going to take something more creative than sitting on the trail leading to the field at dusk.
With only a few weeks left, it can't hurt much to start moving right in on their bedroom. I think that's the only place to find decent bucks during shooting hours right now.

That is a very valid point Andy. Definately if your still trying to get something with antlers on it don't hestitate to intrude into those areas that you left alone while hunting the early season.

Not to say everyone has this type of area on the property they hunt. I know of two areas that I would love to go but the only problem is that it's not on the property I have permission or could ever get on because they are owned by animal lovers. Some reason they don't care for me too much. The property I hunt is more of a transition area from bedding on one side to the feeding area on the other.

Andy without a doubt made a very good point that should be taken advantage of.....if this area exist in your hunting area.

A friends dad shot what he thought was a doeMonday night which turned out to be a small buck which already dropped his fighting gear. Keep that in mind if your one of those that lets the small bucks walk before you shot that suspect doe!!

I agree. It's down to the wire now. If you bump the buck then so what. He'll be back next year.

This time of year you have nothing to lose. Use everything you have left in the bag.

I'm heading out into the woods this weekend but I have given up on the idea of picking off a buck. Theres always the rut this year to try aghain. I will take a doe that walks within bow range at this point. If not............ No big deal, turkey season will be here soon! :P

I agree with what Andy said and would emphasize searching the thickets, the nastiest of the nasty. Try scouring the edges of it in the morning. Still hunting with emphasis on the still part. You might even look up Andy's prev thread about the buddy system walk around still hunt method. That would be primo this time of year especially up in a thicket. Pine groves would be good this time of year too if you can sneak up to one quietly. The buddy system would be a big plus this time of year as the escape routes in some places are obvious especially with floods and such. Just get one guy to bump the deer once you are in the funnel area for the escape route and you should have some action. Not the best way to bowhunt deer, but at this stage of the game it is time to get agressive!

I took a nice 9 pt @ 4:30 today. It came into a small food plot in my back yard with a smaller 8 pt. I've been seeing 4 bucks every time the snow starts to fly. This time they finally came close enough!! One buck had a half rack but the rest still had a full set!!

Didn't get to hunt on friday evening. Work won out over hunting. Saturday morning went grouse hunting on the farm I deer hunt. At 9:00 am there were 11 deer feeding in grass field. Seen 22 deer 30-35 turkeys and 4 grouse while hunting till 1:00 pm. All the deer except 3 were feeding. They even tolerated my presence longer than I expected. Without a doubt they were on the move here on saturday morning. Most of the trails that led to food sources had seen heavy travel. Though only 1 confirmed buck (spike) another carried himself like a buck but had no head gear. I'll try to hunt this week mostly in the evening hitting my early october stand sites. Mornings are going to be very cool for the next few days.

Went out saturday night, set up my climber on the edge of a unpicked soybean field.. About 4:45 I had 6 does come by, 2 were within shooting range.. Still waiting for the monster 9 to show himself.. No luck though... If the snow holds up might try that spot net weekend.. Put up a 55 gallon corn feeder at one of my spots in Marietta.. Going to hunt that saturday night, duck hunt the river sunday morning, then deer hunt the soybean field sunday night! Can't wait..

Well all the bucks i've been seeing last week now have lost at least one side of thier racks . So be extra attentive to the heads so you don't take a shed buck thinking it's a doe! It happened to me about 8 years ago and I still wonder what he would have looked like. His head had two blood spots the size of a 50 cent piece. Good luck to all!!

I'm still hunting, but I'm not seeing much. Getting trail camera photos of deer moving around after dark. Going to hit it hard the rest of this week to at least try and get another doe.

p.s. I'm hunting in Hocking and Vinton counties.

I went "road scouting" yesterday and I was surprised to only see two groups of deer that only came out with about 10 mins of light left. One group had 13 deer and the other group had 10 so they are herded/yarded up pretty good with these arctic temps. Also, a full moon last night so I am sure they were on the move all night long to keep warm.

I'll be hunting both Saturday and Sunday near Twinsburg. Doubt that I'll see any antlers but hope to bag a couple does with any luck. The freezer is BARE! :(
