I was at full draw waiting for that nice high racked 8 to take one more step and ....
BAM then I heard a deer blow over the hill and then a doe came busting butt over the hill and crashed in the thicket next to me. Meanwhile I'm still at full draw with a wall mounter that passed just out of range at 45yds and a real nice 8 just about to cross at 30yds well both bucks turned and ran right where the doe went in the thicket. dammmmm
Well as it turns out my buddy shot that doe with his crossbow over the hill at the exact moment I needed one more darn step. It was still a great hunt and left with a memorable story. January Bowhunting always is exciting.

Leave it to your friends to screw you every time.;)

Did your friend get the doe?

Yup, it was not very big, but sure should be tender. He felt bad but I reassured him it wasn't his fault and congratulated him on his deer.

Bummer!! You said your buddy was just over the hill? How far was that? That is some bad luck, especially this time of the year. Go back and give em another try!! I bet your luck would change. Leave your buddy at home this time!!:D

Countryroad I would say he was maybe 80yds just over a knoll and leaving him at home is not an option since it was his spot good idea though. Those bucks definatlely will be back. They were eating in a small field an hour before dark and my buddy knew one of us had a good chance of seeing them. It was just a matter of which trail they would take to get to the field.

Its about an hour drive there from my house and the chances of me returning this year are not very likely.
