Hit the farm I hunt this morning before day break. By 830 the wind was blowing and snowy. I sat in my seat from my climber, I was on the ground. When two does walked up on my left. I took aim w/my crossbow on one but they were a little too far out. I waited to see if they would move my way but they headed down an embankment. I stood to give a look around . Didnt see anything so I sat my bow on my seat. When I looked up there was a nice 6 point buck about 15 yards in front of me. I froze and he stepped between me and my tree. I picked up my crossbow and raised it to my shoulder. He still didnt see me. He stepped forward and quartering away I put the cross hairs behind his shoulder and pulled the trigger. When I looked up I saw my arrow sticking out of a tree. The buck was 20 or so yards back, he snorted at me and that was that. I stood there in the silent, white woods shaking like a leaf. And not from the cold.
Sorry to hear you missed.. You think you missed because of the wind?

What a bummer. At least your time out in this weather wasn't a complete waste.

Those trees are a little hard to field dress and even harder to drag out of the woods.
I have harvested a few of them in my time.

I've started a collection of wounded trees. This one cost me a 130 plus ( see "a buck named Lucky") I posted earlier this year. It hurts but its part of the sport.

Thats funny Spring fever, Wished I could blame it on the wind, but just plain old buck fever. I was in shock when I looked up and saw him and sooo close to me. I didnt stop trembling till I was half way home.

We've all missed, hit a tree, hit a branch. It happens. That's why they call it hunting. You'll "git'r done" next time!

Man you're a better man than me. I woke about quarter after 6, stuck my head outside and said no way. Not with that wind.
I did that once, I hit the tree so high that I had to climb the tree with my climber to reclaim the arrow. I think we all know the uncontrollable SHAKES after a shot.

I hate it when that happens. ;)

There is a tree where I hunt that still has one of my arrows in it. Way too high to climb. It's been up there for about 5-6 years. About 15 years ago when the woods was logged out the loggers found a crossbow arrow up in a tree. Strangely none of us had a crossbow.
