The best lure I ever used for Crappies or Gills was a Fly that my MOM tied using a small hook and a feather out of a duster.
The kind of feather dusters you use for your house.
it had orange/brown feathers and the crappies and gills ate it up.
when you pulled it or worked it through the water the feathers actually looked like a small minnow swimming.
It worked incredible, she was just messing around and my dad and me and my brothers actually laughed at her when we seen them in the tackle box, but she made us all feel and look stupid when we started hammering the crappies and gills using the little flies.
My dear old mom, she loves to fish.
I think I got my love of the outdoors from her more than my dad.
I still tell this story and I was a kid when this happened, I am now going on 38 years old.
That is how much my moms little flies impressed me and the rest of my family.

Yup, I like the jig head tipped with a live minnow under a bobber. Simple and deadly.

live bait. It's hard to beat mom nature. The feather duster jig
is awsome. Cool mom.

I still like the tube jigs. They're tough to beat for numbers. Though a minnow swimmin around on a bare hook will often produce a bigger slab like one of em big ole Fish OH's!

My homemade flies I make . They tear up the gills in the winter spring fall and summer . A guy off the MI site caught 140 in a day and half 2 weeks ago on them. Im selling them this year to help toward my 4000 dollar school loan im taking out.
I can hook you up for 12 for a buck a piece and I pay the shipping. Just tell me the colors you want, glow in the dark or weighted or not or leave it to me for a nice selection of my proven effective colors combos.
I will be sending a donation of the proceeds to the site.

Id have to say minners in the summer and fall and jigs in the winter and spring just because fish dont move much when its cold but they will hit if you bring it close enough. And you can cover more ground with a jig.
