Fishing Report

The snow and wind have slowed the steelhead trout fishing on the rivers and streams to a crawl and knocked out the shoreline fishing for walleye that has been so productive after dark in recent days.
It may take some time for the ice to cover on area ponds and lakes to become thick enough for ice anglers, but the Cleveland Metroparks won't wait to stock its lakes with foot-long rainbow trout this winter.
To make sure holiday anglers have an opportunity for some cold-weather fishing the Cleveland Metroparks will release 1,800 pounds of trout over the next week in five area lakes. The annual stockings will be repeated in late January.
Trout will be released in Shadow, Wallace, Ledge, Ranger and Judges lakes. While a thick coating of ice will be missing, anglers should be able to catch a few fish by casting small spinners and spoons or suspending jigs tipped with maggots under a float, as well as jigs or hooks tipped with various trout baits, including Power Bait.
For information contact the Metroparks, 440-234-9597.
Trophy fish
Before the bad weather arrived, Don Ungrady of Troy Township was fishing for Lake Erie yellow perch about two miles north of Geneva. Fishing a crappie rig baited with minnows on light line, Ungrady hooked and landed a 30-inch, 13-pound walleye.
