I was out on the edge of an alfalfa field this morning, looking to fill a doe tag. Just when I thought all of the deer had been shot or had changed their travel patterns, here they come.

There is an open gate crossing between two fields. The farmer told me a buck "comes by at 8:30 in the morning and then again at 5:30. He won't go down in where your stand is 'tho". Since the farmer has showed me this, I've seen the buck a dozen times. This morning, the buck came to the gate to look over the pasture at about 8:20. Since I have filled my buck tag I thought "I'm gonna screw with this guy". I grunted. He just about turned inside out to get away from the grunt sound. I thought "He sure is spooked". Just then, about 30 yards away, a massive (body and rack) 8 point steps out of the woods behind me. This guy then races to the edge of the pasture just out of my line of sight. He chases six doe and a small spike buck back through the pasture well out of range of my bow and doe tags. I spent another hour waiting for a doe to show, but nothing came by. As I was leaving that stand, I bumped at least five more deer on the way out. I think the big buck is why the smaller buck won't come near my stand. But then, the spike was willing to try his luck with the ladies. Maybe the smaller buck has been taught a lesson in more ways than one. I got one more chance at this spot before muzzle loading season. I need to rid the farmer of some doe...

Last night I was on the edge of a CRP field and had a nice 10 come out and I thought the same having already filled my buck tag so I grunted and he wanted nothing of it. I have a feeling the 160" 10 point my dad shot and the 140" inch nine my mom shot had been whoopin some ass this year.

I sat in the same stand this morning. I saw three spike bucks just after daylight. The smallest one would'nt be an anterless, so they all walked. Then, about 9 ish, I saw three basket rack bucks. Now I know how Pennsylvania hunters feel, having to let bucks walk. Oh well, I still have time to use some urban tags...

Went out tonight. First night out in a treestand all year. While watching three gray squirels, and a large woodpecker, I heard some noise over to my right.. ( sitting about 10 yards from the edges of a field, about 35 yards from one of the corners of the field) Being out of hunting practice, i turn a little quick to see what it was and got busted... Snorting and tails from 4 does.. Decided to try a doe bleat, maybe confuse them.. Hit it one time, and see a doe look at me, about 100 yards into the field..Goes back to feeding.. then another joins her, then another, until there are 7 does, feeding in the grown over field..They stayed about 150 yards out the whole night.. Did not see anything else.. Still fun just to be out in the woods though...:D

Had one of the best nights of the year Thursday evening. I seen a group of ten doe's on the way in to my stand. After about 1/2 hour in the stand I seen a nice massive buck, only problem he was on the wrong side of the field about 400yds away. 1/2 hour later watched three doe's nibble in the field till dark. With no acorns its been a tough year.
Saturday morning I seen 21 turkey and 3 doe's. The darn deer didn't come out till about 10am.

Keep in at it.

I feel like going down to my grandparents where I hunt and just sitting in my treestand. I may do just that. I don't really have anything else to do except buy Christmas gifts.
I'm not sure if the snow made it that far south, cause I'd like to know which trails they're using to get to the field so I'll know which stand to use opening morning of of muzzy. I think I know where I'll be anyway.

From what I have been seeing, the deer havent taken to setting up a pattern other than the time of day they show up to eat in the fields. I have seen them come out into the field from different areas every time. No luck patterning them at all yet. :(
