Man, that sounds like fun! Andy and Darron...are you guys hunting water or fields? We sat over a few fields and had a boatload of geese come in, but the few ducks we saw were flying fast and high. I think since there is so much open water still, they are not hitting the fields until just before sunset (as I saw the same fields we hunt LOADED with literally hundreds of ducks/geese the night before the opener). What do you guys think?

Sorry for the delay, Lacure. I'm hunting water. If you can find some open water right now, it's probably going to be a good day.
Shot the heck out of 'em again on 12/24 and 12/26. First 30 minutes of shooting time has been incredible.
Good luck and be safe.

I'm like andy, the first 30 min they pile in if you have open water. We hunted the river again today and shot 5 the first 15 min and then 3 more 10 min later. Was done with our 2 man limit of 8 mallards by a little after 8am. We have hunted the river 3 times and killed limits all 3 times. Will probably give it a try again Wed somewhere.

Hunted flood fields in Montgomery County with a friend......close to Darron's honey hole and killed 8 Mallards and 4 Canadas in about 1 hour last Thirsday! Dux were everywhere in the flooded alfalfa fields I hunted.
Went to the "Cowan" this am and saw lots of dux and geese just coulded pull any into the dekes......no wind and me mojo wasn't working! Water is way up, blind was underwater and had to be "relocated" to higher ground. It was a great day! :D
Darron.....thanks for e-mailing those pics, I got one to send you as soon as I get back to the office, Monday am!

10ga,
I lost my fields there outside the burg last year. I think I told you over the summer. The son was moving out of town and since he wasn't there to watch the place the father told us no more hunting. Also lost the field in front of that one as the owner died and it is now tied up in probate court. So I have 0 spots out there 10ga. Don't worry though, I'm not far:D We are having our best year yet. This flood has got the birds scattered which is hurting us here lately. Still getting birds but not as easy as what we were when they were concentrated. Good luck the rest of the season.
P/S: 10ga, you should see our honey hole we picked up this year, one of the duckiest places I have ever seen. You'd die if you knew where it was at;)

Was out at a little place near Pataskala yesterday. Lot's of geese but only one small group of ducks that wouldn't decoy. Rolled a coyote with a 3" mag of #4's. He came up behind the blind at about 40 yards. Thought I had him but he got up and ran. Lost sight of him when he entered a wood lot 150 yards away - still running fast.
First time that's ever happened !

I saw some guys hunting the north end of Alum Creek Res yesterday. They put in at Howard Rd. It is flooded bad, but I guess it is huntable.
