Here is my reply,Dear Mike -
Thanks for your message regarding muzzleloading season; we have had numerous questions about the dates this year. The statewide primitive season has been held on Dec 27 - 30 since the 2000-01 hunting season regardless of the day of the week. The primary reason for the timing of this season is that a majority of hunters (62%) in a 2001 survey indicated that they would prefer the primitive season occurring in the week between Christmas and New Year's than in the first week of January. The deciding factor in leaving the season on Dec 27-30 when it falls on 4 weekdays was to avoid overlapping either holiday and cutting into family time. We have received numerous complaints from deer hunters and check station operators about finding a check station open on New Year’s Eve. We will review our muzzleloading seasons in the upcoming months to see if there are additional opportunities we can provide for the use of muzzleloaders.
