I got a call from my father-in-law tonight, the poachers are at it again down at the farm we hunt in Harrison county. They had someone shoot a 12 pt. from the road with a hi-powered rifle right in front of the house tonight and the found another buck with its head cut off this week. They called the ODNR about it but not much you can do to replace the deer.

If they catch those guys, they shouldnt throw them in jail, they should throw them UNDER the jail and throw the stinking key away.
I can not stand that kind of crap.
Its loosers like them that give hunters a bad name, people that dont hunt do not know the difference between a hunter and a poacher and they dont know that we as hunters are totally against and outraged by that type of crime.
They need stiffer and more sever penalties for those people who poach.

That BLOWS!!! I'd be livid.
How do they know for sure that a 12 point was taken from the road with a high powered rifle? It would seem that to know it was a 12 point, must mean that they SAW the poachers with the deer. Or how do they know it was from the road? Did they see the vehicle? The rifle? Did they see it?
Don't misunderstand me, I'm not doubting for a second that the poaching is going on, but from the detailed information that was provided, it seems as though they saw everything except a liscence plate or a face.

I think Id put a few thru the tires myself. they dont want to get caught, theyre pu$$ies so its not like they'd shoot back. they'd prolly drive on flats to get the hell out of there.

If I was going to confront a potential poacher I would be sure to have my AK-47 and three 30 round mags of 7.62x39.
A few years back a friends father confronted some poachers that were shooting deer at night. When he yelled at them he heard them pump another round into their shot gun and tell him to go F--K OFF.
Lil did they know he was carrying a MAK-10 and two 30 round clips. He unloaded the first clip into the ground. He said they took off and he never saw them again.

I had a chance to buy that gun for $110.00!!!! The only reason I didn't get it was because another friend had his check book and I didn't have mine....

Andy, that's basically what happened. The guy that lives on the farm was outside and so close when it happened that he felt the concussion from shot. Poaching has been a major problem around there for years. That's the main reason we got access to hunt there. The farm is actually "in the family" but they didn't let anyone else deer hunt there for years. They decided to open it up to a handfull of people after they got tired of trying keep a handle on things by themselves. People ripped down over 150 no trespassing signs from the property one day last year and the previous January the found a pile of 6 deer that had been shot and the hind quarters cuttoff. With the exception of this last year when it was a target enforcement county the sound of high powered rifles at night and the occasional spotlight across the house were common place. The area has serious issues.

You need to set up a bunch of red and blue lights in the fields with some big outdoor high volume siren horns like they use at the stadiums.
set it up to where you can flip a switch from the house when you see someone slowing down a little too much by your property at night, when they get a load of the red and blue lights along with sirens blasting, it wont take long before word gets around to stay the heck away from that property.
Could even hook up some motion sensors along the property line where they like to sneak in and scrare the livin crap out of with the lights and sirens when they set the sensors off.
A little work and money but I think it would make a point and as I said, the word would get out about it.

That absolutely stinks, Lance. Tough situation. Like previously mentioned, this is the kind of crap that gives the other 99.9999% of us a bad name. Not to mention how stories like this make it even more difficult to obtain permission to hunt private land.

I would really hope the state would step in and take some action here. Maybe it is just a matter of telling the right people. Good luck!! I hope this comes to an end.

Where in Harrison co. did this happen? I work for the Harrison co. Sheriff's Office. I would appreciate any tips that I could get. I have previously posted about catching poachers and I am an avid hunter as many of you know. Our wildlife officer is top notch. Just to let some of you know: Our former wildife officer , Pete Novotny is now a supervisor for district 3. He currently works Harrison co. full time due to the fact that our assigned officer suffered an injury. Mr. Novotny is first class. Call 1 00 POACHER!!
