I just got off the phone with the landowner whose land we hunt in Clermont county. He notified me that the land, all 120 acres, was sold in auction this past week. I knew it was coming, I was just hoping not so damn soon. They plan to start developing in the spring, which is, I guess some-what good news. I tell you what, this urban sprawl is gettin' out of hand! It seems like any patch of land no matter how big, is getting developed at an alarming rate!! It's really depressing, we've been huntin' that land for the past 9 seasons!! We still have two other places to hunt......at least for now.........!

I'm sorry to hear that, but I do feel your pain. We were informed this week that we're not going to be able to hunt the property we were given permission to hunt on this season as well. Tomorrow will be our last day being able to hunt there (he told us after this weekend).
I wish I could say the reason was as good as yours though. We've been asked to stop hunting because of harassment from a local anti-hunter who has disapproved of us hunting out there ever since she found out about it, and has been causing trouble about it ever since. It finally caused enough friction that we had to give it up.
Some people just don't understand. It's pretty frustrating.
Oh well, guess it's back to the ole public land plot. It's not so bad I guess, but we definitely haven't seen the bucks, and certainly the size of bucks, out there that we were seeing on this private land. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky.

That "Anti" must have some power or major influence. Are they a neighbors or something. If an anti ever came to my property to tell me what I should or shouldn't do on my land they would be leaving with some sore ears and a bruised ass.

we are getting the best of both worlds. we own land. and sure, it looks like we could make alot of money if we developed it, but we don't want to do that because we love hunting and trapping on it. So what does a landowner do? The answer: put your land in a conservation easement. The state and many other organizations (who are funded by the green, left wing environmental junkies) will pay you ALOT of money to not develop the land. Talk about a cyclical world we live in.....the anti's give money to organizations to give to landowners to let them hunt their land the rest of their lives! haha! I love it! We get to hunt and we get a ton of money...what's not to like about that.

At least twice now I've lost fantastic hunting land. Both cases were mostly due to the age of the owners that no longer utilized the property and seen the big dollar signs. Most recently was a 300 acre tract in Ross county that was well known for huge bucks. My buddy & I scored on 4 monster bucks and plenty of other deer. The area was sold in 10 acre tracts ($$$$). My friend and I have pledged to never drive down that road again. We want to remember the way it WAS! We can go about anywhere to see urban spraw. Too Bad. I hope you can somehow benefit out of your misfortune. Maybe you'll come across a "hunting paradise"!!!;)

The deal with the person to which I was referring is that she lives on a piece of property that is adjacent to the property that we had been given permission to hunt. Literally, the woods we were hunting butt right up against her backyard. We explained to her that we would not hunt the area that was near her property at all. The closest we would get would be over a couple hundred yards. Not good enough.
Apparently, when my partner went with the landowner up to her place to give them a heads up that we would be hunting out there, they interrupted her holding out an ear of corn trying to coax in one of the local does. These deer are literally like pets to her. She feeds them, and watches them all the time.
The other thing is, the landowner that gave us permission to hunt is a co-owner of the property with 11 other relatives of his. He is not the soul owner of the property. This lady (the anti) apparently started not only calling all of the local police and harassing them about us being out there hunting (even though it was legally with permission), but she also started calling one of the other owners of the property, harassing her about us having permission to be out there. Who, in turn, started calling a number of the other owners of the property. The result ended up being that most of the other property owners were calling the guy who gave us permission to hunt, and asking him to not let anyone hunt the property.
He was very cool about it, and actually fought to let us stay out there for a while, but I guess after a while it just got to be too much. I think I probably would have done the same thing, and I don't blame him. It is disappointing though.
I think the thing I hate more than anything is the fact that people are going to go and hunt out there illegally anyway. They've been known to do so in the past, and I'm fairly certain that they do now as well. We were out there on Saturday for the last time, and I was doing a bit of still hunting and stumbled onto a trail that I would swear was a drag trail. I followed it for about 50 yards or so, and there was deer hair all along the trail. If I'd had more time (we had to be heading home, plus it had started raining pretty good) I would have liked to have back-tracked the trail to see if I could have found a gut pile. It wouldn't have surprised me to have found one. I've never seen deer hair just laying on the ground like that under any other conditions, so my best guess would have to be that somebody had recently killed one and drug it out of there. The trail led right out to an old road where they could have driven up to to load the deer up. We were the only people that had permission to hunt out there, so if that were in fact a drag trail, it would mean that people are already out there trespassing/hunting illegally, which is something that we could potentially help stop.
But it will remain illegal to hunt out there, and all of those big bucks will remain safe. Oh well.

Not sure if you want to go anywhere with this but there are laws in Ohio, if thats where the property is, against harassment from anti-hunters towards hunters and sportsmen. I'm not sure how the law is stated but it might be worth checking into.
Good Luck this season, hope you can find another good place to hunt in the meantime.

Sorry to hear that Backstrap. I've been down that road a couple times. A couple of my old hunting grounds are now residential developments. I remember the good old days when they were rolling hills, woods, and farmland. Fortunately, a few years back I bought my own tract just so I had a place to hunt. Its getting to the point now where you have to own it, lease it, or hunt public property. Good luck this season.

I guess what really makes it hard is two years ago I bagged a 148-inch 8 pointer, and last year my buddy killed a 163-inch 13 pointer from that property, and were on to one that judging by all the sign he's leaving is one helluva buck. Not to mention the turkey population within the last three years or so has just about tripled! I'm just grateful we still have the place for the rest of this year! I may be down, but I'm definetly not out!!!

I would file for a hunter harassment suit.
It was nothing more than that, plain and simple and people were coaxed or pressured into stopping you guys from hunting based soley on nothing more than the adjoining property owner is an anti hunter and did not want to have you hunting there.
What would happen if you were the one and only owner of the property and she was pulling the same crap to try to stop you from enjoying or participating in a lawful hunt on property that you own and are paying the taxes on and taking care of yourself not to mention paying for the insurance and everything else.
The reasons were not safety issues or tresspassing issues, they were nothing more than she didnt want you to hunt because she doesnt agree with it.
well I dont agree with land developers either, but what htey do on property they own is really none of my business.
she needs to be taught a lesson and atleast scared into the realization that her demands are wrong and unethical, not to mention selfish and illegal.
She had no other legitamate reason, and she used a form of harassment and intimdation by attempting to involve the police in it.
You were not breaking the law in anyway shape or form, and she had no other reason other than she is an anti and caused a big enough stink with the landowners in the form of harassment to get what she wanted.
When are people going to stand up for their rights and quit letting the 1/2 of the 1% decide for us what is going to happen and what our lives are going to be like.
we have to cause a big stink right back to these antihunter types, thats why there is laws to protect us from that kind of crap.
If they have enough law suits filed on them, they will think twice about causing us problems durring a lawful hunt.
GOD I HATE THOSE PEOPLE !!!!!
GET A FRIGGIN LIFE ALREADY !!!!!
let's call someones uncle guido and tell him to put a deer's head in that anti's bed while she is still sleepin. or maybe you could prop up a dead deer in her patio lounge chair wearing a pair of sunglasses and a cigarette in it's mouth holding a sign that says "what, me worry?"she needs a wake up call. lol those crazy antis never cease to amaze me, I'll never forget the one in a cleveland suburb who bought a crossbow and shot her own house with it to encourage city officals to stop hunting years ago. she told them that hunters did it. the arrow was stuck through the second story window screen. like the hunter was shooting flying deer or something. the weird thing is that the people who hear and see these nuts tend to side with them. I will never understand this as long as I live. It seems like no amount of a positive approach or appearance can sway them. we need to think of an alternative or altogether new approach to this problem. any einsteins out there? we could make it this website's mission or long term goal. we could call it, how do you change an anti's mind without a couch and a pyschiatrist? or, do anti's really have minds? maybe we should have a weekly or monthly online meeting to brainstorm a little on this subject. then send the results to the dnr and beg them for help. do you think they would listen?
