You guys Oughtta see what I Bowfish with , You would lose it.............Actualy its quite the tuff set-up.........Ive got an Old Bear Kodiak 50lb pull re-curve, painted it Camoflouge, and Ive got the Old Can style spool that holds my Dacron line............Cant be too awful choosy with your shot once that baby is Drawn..........Plus we fish from an 18 ft Old Town Canoe that we have re-finished to original canvas..........we can sneak up on about anything LOL

Wise 1, Don't discount that old Bear Kodiak Hunter. That is the same bow that I use now. I have killed thousands of rough fish with it of various species including 2 state records. I gave up on the can style reel though. I put a Retriever reel on it when I started going to Saginaw for the tournaments.

I use a 52 lb. recurve with a retriever reel and use Muzzy fish points with aa arrow slide on the shaft. I'm looking at trying out a Zebco 808 on it this year.;)

I tried the Zebco 808. It works OK most of the time. I like to use braided dacron line in the 135lb test class. You can't get much of that on an 808.

I use the Muzzy fish points too. They are the best. I don't use any kind of a slide on the arrow though. I tie a large loop knot in the end of my line and stick half of the loop through the hole in the nock end of the arrow. Then I simply take the part of the loop I just pushed through the hole and bring it over top of the nock. This way if you have a pass through you do not have to cut the line and tie a new knot. I guess those stoppers do the same thing though.

Since I put these slides on i haven't had a pass though yet ( knock on wood). You should give them a try. You don't live that far from me we might hook up and I'll show you them. Maybe make a game plan for bowfishing.;)

Desperado, The first time I saw those stoppers was at the Deer& Turkey Expo a few years back. Yes, I think I might give them a try. I hate pass throughs. especially when the fish are spawning and you are in a hurry to shoot.

We will definately have to get together for some shooting this spring.

We have a Summer place in Danbury Township, plus ALL my in-laws are on that Peninsula & Michigan............I put WAY too many miles on our Vehicles going back and forth !!! We Perch and Walleye fish and then In the evenings Ill walk down to the Dock and cast out something Alive and just sit and wait.

Ohio River?...............Not as much as I would like to, however, I have spent a few evenings fishing Big Indian Creek.......Have yet to break the ten pound flat mark anywhere on the Ohio...........I guess I need to get OUT IN the dang river !! :D

IF YOU CAN SHOOT FISH WITH IT ,THEN USE IT. I USE AN ONEIDA AND A CINERGY BAIT CLICKER CAT FISH REEL WITH A 2FT REEL SEAT. IF IT WORKS FOR YA THEN USE IT.

Yes the 808 will do a good job most of the time. Like I said, the big drawback about the 808 is low line capacity for the heavy dacron planer board line that I like to use. I have used 35-50 lb dacron on the 808 and it works pretty good on every fish except gars. Gars like to jump and roll up in the line and they can easily cut the smaller dacron with their gills. I can't tell you how many gars and arrows I have lost due to light line. I have not lost an arrow since switching to the planer board line. I don't know what the 808's cost now but the ultimate bowfishing reel, the Retriever, really don't cost that much.

I have 3 retrievers , one in the carton and two on some recurves. I do set up my Oneida if I need to shoot more poundage and deep water. But with a 45 lb. and a 52 lb. recurve they work just fine. Want to try using an 808 but just don't know.;)

I use a compound for big game hunting but I never figured out what the connection was between the Oneida bows and bowfishing, Can someone explain that? The reason I use the recurve for bowfishing is the ability to get off a quick shot. But I do admit there have been times when I wished that I had a compound set up for shooting fish due to fish in deep water.

They are a great bow for bowfishing. They are used because the power you need to get in the skin of the Gator gar. They are tough. Also at that time Oneida, was the sponser and would sell aquaflage on the bows. But you can snap shoot with them also. They area a heavy bow to carry in a long tournament and most guys keep them in the bow along with a recurve.;)
