Last evenig around 10pm a co-worker of mine stopped a vehicle in the small village of Jewett for speeding. Upon making contact with the two male occupants he discovered they were intoxicated and were in possession of two loaded firearms, a 12ga. shotgun and a .22mag rifle. I responded to assist him and we further discovered a million candle power spotlight and blood in the bed of the truck. Two wildlife officers were contacted and questioned the men. They eventually went to the mens home where they discovered a small 9pt. buck which had a metal tag, but the wildife officer found a .22mag slug in the animal as well as other deer parts from deer that had already been processed. They were placed in jail on multiple charges. Thought you guys would like this story!!

So it's illegal in Ohio to spot light deer and shoot them with a .22 mag?

Guess you learn something new every day..... ;)

Around here it is common to here a large caliber rifle while hunting in October & November. I know they are not hunting tree rats with that big a gun. The guys at the check-in station don't notice or don't seem to care how the deer was taken.

I hear a few shots every once in a while. I know they are not on the 40-50 acres I hunt. The neighbor guy that owns about 400 acres would shoot someone himself if he saw a poacher on his property. I hunt pretty close to his property line and onetime I shot a buck with my shotgun and it wasn't 5 minutes later he was riding down the hill on his fourwheeler to check things out. He trusts me though. He was just making sure it wasn't someody else.

Hunting that are for over 15 years there is heck of alot more out there.
This problem has gone on way to long without being seriously adressed by athorities. And yes i have called authorities 1800 poacher several times with little or no effort.
