It was absolutely perfect/beautiful out tonite. Slight NE breeze, but again, no deer! Didn't even see any on the 15min drive home.

At Waterloo George. There's plenty of sign, just can't seem to get on any. I don't understand it. They're all over the place usually! I just think the man up above is makin me hold out for a big one this year.

It has been about 17 years since I archery hunted from the ground. I tried it again last night and soon found out that you can't move nearly as much as you can in a tree stand. I shifted my butt when a doe, about 40 yards, went behind a tree, and got nailed. Still can't believe she picked me up. Kudos to those of you who still do it from the ground!

Excuse me while I go hang a stand at that spot :D .

Same here in Licking County. Hunted last night and did'nt even see a doe. Just like you guys say, the signs are there and I know they gotta move but WHEN is the question. I am begining to think all the deer where abducted by aliens!!! ;) Oh well ,cold weather and the rut are on its way!!!

The deer appear to be moving closer to dark this week. Last week I saw several good deer moving well before dark. I got stuck in my stand 30-35 minutes longer last night waiting for them to clear.

I talked to my cosin on the phone at lunch. He lives next to Egypt Valley Near Barnsville. He thinks that the deer are not in the woods because of the lack of nuts on the trees this year. I think he might be on to somthing. From what I have seen the mast crop is terrible this year. Any thoughts???

Well, I have seen a lot of red oak acorns where I hunt, but no whites. The beech nut crop has been minimal at best. I am still waiting for abeech nut crop like we had 4 or 5 years ago when there was a carpet of husks all over the forest floor.

Both deer that I have killed this year were just browsing on grasses and whatnot, though I have seen many deer workign in and out of the standing corn.

There are fewer nuts this year (on the trees). But on the other hand the deer have to eat something. Been seeing several deer feeding in a bean field that was planted after the wheat harvest in July. The time is approching quickly that the bucks have something other than food on thier minds. The cooler weather moving in next week should help remind them.

Yes you guys are right about the acorns. I talked to a biologist there at Waterloo, and he said they're all mainly reds, very poor white crop this year. Yes, it's getting colder and they'll be moving. Anyone heading out tonite again. Geo, i'm with ya on this Northern wind. I'm thinking of stayin in tonite.

I am headed into a spot where I have patterned a couple of does coming through at about 4:45 PM. I plan on meeting them when they come through, then taking off to coach soccer practice. I hope they are on time!

Planning on leaving work around 3-3:30 to go home and de-scent myself. Should be in my stand around 4:30. Hunting a stand I hunted 3 times this year and seen 6 bucks out of plus numerous does. The first buck was a 9 pt. that probably went 135 to 140. Had second thoughts on letting him go at 15 yds, but the next time I hunted it I was reminded why. A buck that was huge RUN under my stand to get to some does heading out in the field. No chance to shoot but one day maybe he won't be so lucky. After I left my stand that night two buck where in the field fighting. Watched them for about 10 minutes until they vanished in the dark.

Good luck to all that go out this evening, Weather moving in later tonight may help the deer movement.

I'm having the same problems with the acorns where I hunt. Not finding any, reds or whites. That probably accounts for my lack of deer sightings. I'm seeing deer in the open fields in the early mornings thats probably why they are there, lack of acorns.
