View Full Version : cuyahoga river (pike)
Looking for some tips on catching northern pike out of the cuyahoga river. Fished the other day, launched just south of Ladue. Didnt have any luck though. Does anyone have any insight on what works best or any other areas of the cuyahoga that hold good numbers of pike. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A buddy of mine used to toss a silver spoon at wood piles... he always caught them..
sounds like you have a boat for the river, have you launched at russel park? it,s north on rapids road north of rt,422 the river is way down now, there aren,t a lot of pike in there but there are some.i went wading in the spring, using a rapala and got a few hammer handels noting to write home about. west branch probaly has bigger ones there.all you can do is try it and see if it,s worth going back.

The best time to fish that river is in early spring upon ice out with chubs.

Welcome to the site!
The best year round populations of pike are actually in the stretch from the Ohio Edison dam at the Gorge park in Cuyahoga falls on up through Kent. I think most of the bigger fish caught up north like that are just spring run fish out of Rockwell. Even then, some hang out up through the upper river sections but the majority of the bigger just go back down to the resevoirs. My best luck has been on spinners and buzz baits with white skirts.

Buzzbaits with white skirts are the only thing i've ever had luck with.

I've done alright with tube jigs too.
Just fished the Munroe Falls section last weekend and
got nothing for the day ('cept a pretty blond in my extra
kayak-good enough for me!):D
The Russell Park/422 area doesn't seem as good as the downstream sections, although I've got few up that way
at times too. Pike, that is.:p
New to this area - travel 422 all the time, is there anything in that area of the river to fish for besides early in the spring?
