.. or is it matin' season down at the Frog pond? :D
matin' season down at the Frog pond
the last thing I want are more tadpoles around here.
We hit Hoover over the weekend and nothing but a tough bite and short fish. I know misfit hit it again yesterday and still the same story. Here it is almost July and the water temps are falling over the last week. It sure has been a strange year.

Fred...at least on IL one item that hasn't changed is the amount of food/shad in the lake ~ I can troll a lure for a couple of minutes & the action will change .. it will have one or two small 3/4" shad stuck on the hook tips -- food overload happens here just about mid to late June every year. The good ones open up their mouth & pack their gut whenever they want & smile at us as the lures go by:) ~ tis slow pickin's fer' awhile here...
-- heheh .. so your tadpole days are in the past! :D

there's alot of shad in hoover also, but the bite had been good till thursday's front knocked them for a loop.they should turn back on when we get more stable weather, even with all the food there.
i'm just waitin' for the hot july il troll;)

We'll get together & put the PBs out for the mud-line bite in late July/1st of Aug if this year is like the last .. gonna try to get Myrl to go along the same day for a real breezy trip even if the water is flat & the bite is dead - *Grin* :D

Hey Rick. I saw a pic of you and a nice saugeye on a site I was browsing earlier today. I think it was "fish and tales" or something like that. It gives reports for Hoover. Its a nice little website. Anyway, sounds like it was tough for those tournament boys. I am glad I didn't try to talk my uncle into to going back down to fish it Sunday. Also, we considered Alum last Saturday instead of Hoover and I saw a post that it was tough there as well. Hopefully, things will indeed stabilize.

i think that fish was a 20 incher from last year.
that is a good site for a weekly report on hoover.jim horan does a good job with and does a lot of fishing related volenteer work.he's a great guy,who i've catfished with on a couple occasions.
sunday was tough too,but we managed 11,and saw others caught.but only a couple "fair" fish.the wind was rough.i'm sure the shad had some effect, along with the weather, but the next few ays might find them active again.they're still in fairly shallow water of 10 feet or less.
I remenber that fish misfit, in fact I think I ate it.
From the sound of Jims hoover report about the shad hatch it may still be a tough bite for a while.
