What the heck is up with Buckeye Lake?? The father-in-law and I went Sunday morning and it was as green as a tree. My crank bait vanished at about 2"!! We passed a guy in another boat and he said he fished Saturday for 8 hours without a bite!! I never been on a lake with that much micro alge. I wonder if it's that way from all the rain. My fish finder dosent have temp, but the water was very warm from being so dark. We fished for about 3 hours with no bites and turned tail and went home. Is it just me or has that lake went down hill in the last couple of years??

On a more sober note, there was a boat wreck Saturday night on the lake and the lake was so green they could'nt find the body until this morning (Monday)

From the news story I heard it wasn't a boat wreck. Anyway, it is likely from all the rain runoff. All those fields are pouring tons of phospherous into the lake and that is what has caused the algae boom. It is not good to have such a strong algae boom this early in the year, but I don't know really what the outcome could be.

I believe the algae cause a huge decrease in oxygen levels in the water by either using it up or by blocking sunlight thus decreasing aquatic plant oxygen production.

It was always green when I was a kid.
