First off, anyone know what the difference is between humpback and "long" shovelheads? Im thinking its just the difference between male and female.. i dunno.

Anyway on 5-28-04 I caught a 36lb. 8.5oz humpback and just a few hours ago (6-8-04) I caught a 36lb 13oz humpy. Im so excited lol. There is such a gap on my biggest catches so far........ 13lb 1oz then 15lb 6oz..... now high 30's ^^ Im going to strive to become a great catfish hunter in life. Not too bad of catches for only 19 years old no? :) Someone take me fishing in a central ohio river some weekend plz.

this is what we would call normal or long shovel

There isnt alot of information about this on the internet, we think that it might be the difference between male and female, dont know which is which tho. We may find out in the next few weeks when the blue's quit spawnin and the shovels start to. We'll pretty much only catch females during the spawn so that should help us determine.

Nice Flatheads. If you have in-depth questions on flatheads Robbie (katfish) is the man to talk to. He is the guy in the first picture you have posted so maybe you already know him.

It's simply the difference in shape between males and females, and it's definitely not specific to only Ohio. Flatheads are flatheads, no matter where they are. The second picture is a juvenile fish, so it doesn't really show anything. Take a look through some of Robby's other pictures, you'll see the difference.
