The last day of turkey season my Uncle shot a big tom from a portable ground blind. He and I got to talking about them and concluded that they might be useful in the deer woods. I have seen them at Buckeye Outdoors and they fly off the shelves so they must work. Do any of you "Expert" bow hunters use them and if so what are their pros and cons.

I've got one I used for turkeys, but I may try using it for deer and hogs this year.

I like just sitting in fallen trees.....maybe place a couple branches in a good spot...but would rather use my ladder stand.

I may use mine this year, but it really depends on how things look when I arrive.

When I was at the mecca they had a few double bull blinds set up.

Boy that is a VERY nice set up. I may have to pick one up some time.

I would like to check out one of those Ameristep Brickhouse blinds too.

The problem with my current blind is that I can't shoot my long bow outta it.

This is the blind I have. I love it but it is a little to pricey. I got a huge deal on it:D I would recommend one of this size because you can shoot and move with ease. Two people are very comfortable.

I would never pay the full price for it unless I made about double what I do now.

I will defend the quality but definantely not the price. This one will last longer than most. I paid less than $250 for mine. All the pictures of the turkey hunt came from inside the blind with screens up.

i wont go turkey hunting without one ever again. after being busted by a couple of birds earlier in the year i bought one for the last two weeks of the season. me and my buddy each killed a bird out of it ( dog house) in the final two weeks. ill stick to my treestand for bow hunting, but will definatly use it during gun season. if i were you i would check ebay iv seen some good deals there.

I am torn between a new "top of the line" climber or a good ground blind plus a good climber. I just aint totaly sold on the idea of huntin from a tent:D
Them Monroe County boys will think I am a total "Flat Land City Slicker" if I come dragin in with a ground blind!!! They aint as open minded as me!!! Oh well, old habits die young!!!!

george tinkham

most dome tents can be had for less than 50$...these are not high quality tents like north face, etc. an they are sellin em for more than high quality back pack tents...i can not see them for any more than 200$...these guys are laffin there way to the bank...

I don't use a ground blind for deer unless there are no suitable trees in the area. For turks its the only way to go while bowhunting for one. Gun is another story. Not a much movement pulling a trigger.:D

George $250 is a steal compared to $449 from Cabelas. The are higher quality than most tents just no bottom:D

george tinkham

yup there is even no bottom, geeze

Anyone interested in using a ground blind should check out The Invisiblind, endorsed by The Motor City Madman himself. My uncle purchased one two years ago and it is really awesone. The entire one side of the thing is shoot-through along with several large "windows" on all other sides. You can see and shoot out , but the game can not see in.

I will check that out. Anywhere I should look?

I know for sure they have a website if you are looking for info. I also remember he ordered directly from Invisiblind himself, I will warn you that they are pricey, but really convenient and effective.

you cant beat the price of the doghouse 75 bucks or less. it has shoot thru windows also and replacement windows velcro right back in.

Those invisiblinds sure look nice... Have too much wrapped up into my Double bull to change... One complaint about mine... It is way to heavy! Of course heavy usually means better construction.

WELL FOR YRS. I GUESS I JUS DONE IT the "hard way" building a ground blind with sticks an limbs, got deer several times to 5 yds. from me without detection, only drawback,it takes a lot of hard work an time to build one...hmmmm this sounds like another arg. i hear all the time dont it...i guess that arg. could be made with much of the newer equip. we have today...if one wanted to persoo it.

Heres a good blind with scent lock and not as expensive.
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=71409
I have two blinds of this brand, one with scent lock and the other without.
the one without, I paid 60 bucks for and I used it this year for turkeys and ended up taking 4 birds from it. Had several dozen birds within bow range of it throughout the season.
contrary to popular belief though, a head net or face mask is still needed to draw them in close enough for bow or they will stay out of bow range. they dont pick you up as a fearsome hunter but for some reason they just wont come in.
I prefer the 60 dollar one because it is lighter and doesnt have a floor so you stay much quieter within it. The scent lock one is like a tent so it has a floor in it.
I still prefer the early fall hunting in a tree though, theres so much more to see and appreciate when sitting around for 12 hours waiting for a Biggun to stroll by.

Yeppers. actually, I set up two of those 8 dollar collapsable chairs, ( with beer .... ummmmmm errrrrrrrrrrrr, pop can holders), a collapsable stool, a tripod for the video cam, and hunted from it with my 7 year old and 10 year old boys the day my 10 year old smacked his Jake.
Just kicked back and ate peanuts ( another plus for the floorless one since the shells are messy and you can just drop em ) ;) and made a few calls here and there and called em in.

yuh know i really never thought of that,i have heard of those staying in their stand all night.

06-13-2004, 07:27 PM
Yeah, its great to be able to do that, It beats lugging an over sized plastic juice bottle in and out of the blind.
I definately like the floorless version.
Plus, if your hunting for someone that cant sit still or a girlfriend, you can do whatever you want without being seen. :D

Scout, all too funny. Too bad u couldnt pick it up from inside and tip toe to another spot out of the immediate danger ares.

Its true when we walked thru the wayne, I was drinking constantly, whereas george was just walking. I think all he had in the morning was about half a can of warm pop.

Taken my uncle out a few times and he was busted in it, well they scented him. so make sure you kick leaves all around the bottom to seal it up or your scent will be carried out to the deer.

they are nice. say if the weather is bad raining or snowing you can't beat them.
