View Full Version : Why I'm glad to live in Ohio.

A year and a half ago I suffered a bad fall outside my house due to ice. I suffered what is called an A/C separation in my right shoulder. This is caused when the collar bone is separated from the shoulder. Yes quite painful. Recovery has been somewhat slow. Especially for my bow shooting. Before I broke my collar bone I shot nothing but my Bowtech compound. I used to scoff at crossbow users as lazy, etc etc. However, last year I faced the facts that I may never be able to shoot a compound at a level that would be responsible enough to pursue game. So I purchaesd a Horgon Legend II crossbow, Millet red dot scope and all the trimmings. I hunted all last fall with it and enjoyed every minute. I did not harvest a deer with it , but I was able to be in the woods. I was hopeful that I would return to the compound this spring, but after a few attempts I realize that maybe the Horton is still my best bet. O.k. moral of the story, never take anything for granted and never disrespect anyone who has different tastes than you. I feel I'm lucky to live in Ohio where the DOW allows crossbows to be used during archery season. Injury or no injury I think I would have liked these crossbows all along if I could have gotten past my own uneducated opinions.

Good hunting to all !!!!

And one other thing as soon as you put fletching on it it IS AN ARROW, bolts were used in ancient times NO Fletching.

great post...hope you get a full recovery,i've been that route with an injury an was contemplating a compoun or a xbow if i could not use a stickbow...for me its about hunting calm, natural deer in the archery season.

Thanks for the post.

I look at all of us as hunters first. What someone hunts with is not important to me as long as they get out there.;)

I agree . Good post and I think as long as we can make the most ethical harvest, the better off we are as hunters. Not that it will put an end to the animal rights movement, but being ethical in the woods, should come first for hunters of all walks.

I am a crossbow hunter and NEVER understood what the big deal was about compound guys loathing other hunters who hunt with crossbows??? ITS A BOW!!! So what if it has a stock. If you was gun hunting and was using a pump shotgun you would'nt hate hunters who used single shots!!!! Bowhunting is a gift from god himself, sent to us so we could enjoy nature the way he created it. If you have good ethics and follow the laws to the tee, who really cares what kind of bow you use. I know not EVERY compound hunter hates crossbow guys, but there are a good bit of "Crossbow Haters" out there. The state of West Virginia hates crossbows so much you cant even use them to hunt PERIOD!!! I would love to bow hunt in WV but I want to go into the woods with the bow I feel most comfortable with. I guess us crossbow guys just need to stick together and try to project our best image to the rest of the hunting world!!!

sycamore,i agree an thats why i think xbow hunters need to have an organization or better yet ohio needs an archery or bowhunting organization that is compiled of xbowers, compounders and recurvers/longbowers.in other words the whole inchalotta.

I think we need to be better organized also. ODNR does a good job making the laws governing bowhunting but we need to stick together to "keep them in line"!!! I would like to see them come down harder on poachers too.

I also agree, although I've only been bow huntin a couple of years I think such an organization would be benificial to the sport. Bringing hunters together to promote hunting ethics and strengthen rights. especially with the kids who will be tsking our place one day.

I've never shot, nor hunted, with an xbow. But I don't see the harm in others using them, if that's their choice. It has no affect on me, other than that they scare the .... out of me when they go off. :D I say use them if you want, but don't complain about them if you don't.
