I have been seeing some pretty nice bucks lately at the feeder in my yard. Tonight I had two of them at the feeder for almost 40 minutes. They gave me a real nice look at their new growth through the binocs and I was fairly impressed with their progress at this point. Each of them had their brow tines and at least 8 inches (if not more) of main beam going on each side. Can't wait to hang a stand and get some really cool pics of them in velvet this Summer. Any one else been seeing bucks with new sproutage lately???

While turk hunting on Sun. Two bucks came out in the open. One had about 8" of growth with a huge gnarl on the end?? The other was younger and had about 4" of growth. It was neat to see them investigating me calling!

Saw the big boys again tonight. Hoping to catch them (with the camera) with their full racks in the late summer and post them on the site. Can't wait for archery season to open up again.

I wish Nuges "spirit of the wild" was on OLN. I wonder why they show so much deep sea fishing? Guess it is a coastal thing. Grrr. I would love to catch a giant sea bass or tuna but...not no opportunity even close to OH.

They are some doozies. Posted a picture on here a while ago of the smallest buck that we have running through. Can't wait to see him with full head gear this year since he was a shooter as of last season. The other two that frequent make him look like a shrimp. I think that's the two I have been seeing lately. One of them has a nice drop tine on his right side that goes 6 inches (not too shaby). Hope he doesn't get hit by a car ...

TF,
I live in Sylvania, a suburban area about 7 miles west of Downtown Toledo. These deer make their way from the Boy Scout reservation, and country club through the ravine in my woods and to the feeder I have up. Unfortunately, they are for "looking" pleasure only. However I will be contacting DNR (since I live in the township), to see if I may bowhunt them this season. It's just getting way too tempting anymore with all of the nice racks I've been seeing "right in my own backyard". For now I will have to hunt them with the camera.

Our deer are so small that you can't see their antlers unless they are right under your stand.

I saw a dandy little buck yesterday driving south on I-71 toward Columbus. He had his brow tines started and about 6 to 8 inches of main beam. It was during the middle of the day too so it was neat to see.

Went out to finish some work in the yard, when I spotted this guy making his way towards my woods. So I hauled buggie butt to my stand and finally got a decent shot tonight. I was a little upset that he came in without the bigger one that he's been hanging with, but you get what you get.

It is hard to tell this time of year because some bucks growth could be slowing soon. At least that is what I heard is this true? I know they all shed at different times but do they grow during different times also? And if so is it as drastic as a difference compared to dropping them?

Going to leave the deer alone out back for a month or so to give them a break. Will get some updated growth pics on here when they get back to "normal".

I believe they continue to grow right up until the velvet is shed which is not until about early to mid September. I have also heard that a wet spring and summer helps with antler growth and if that is the case then, there is one good thing about all this stinkin rain.

I heard the same about the rain and racks growing well. I have also heard that plenty of sunlight helps a nice rack as well.
