Thursday evening I caught 15 keeper crappies at Alum Creek. The fish I kept were all 10-12 inchers. I caught about 15 that were border line at about 8.5 to 9.5 inches and threw all of them back. I generally don't care to mess with them unless they are a solid 10 inches. It was a blast! The next 2 weeks should be prime for crappies in the coves if we don't get too much rain.

they're turning on at hoover too.unless we get a monsoon, they ought to firing up real soon.most fish are males, but the females are starting to move in and both lakes should be giving up lots of fish from here on out.

I use the little tube jigs almost exclusively on crappies. Also, on May 9, I went back to the same spot and caught another 10 nice slabbers with the biggest being a 12.5 incher. Not quite a Fish O, but still a real nice fish. I might hit it today now that I am home.

I hit Alum yesterday and did well on the eyes. Trolled the humps and picked up 16 eyes. Biggest was about 2.5 lb. Also I caught allot of crappies while trolling, they were on the humps in about 8' of water. Most were over 12".

I got 15 more crappie today, but it was kind of tough. The cove I have been fishing they are spawned out. The lower end of the lake might be better this late in the spring. I haven't been to Hoover, but I have heard that the water level is high and people are catching white bass below it.
