Did I waste my money or did I make a good buy on a useful item?
I bought a brand new in the box, blind on eBay last weekend. I usually check stuff out like this before I buy it but, I bought this sight unseen. I read some really good reviews about this particular blind over on Bowsite.com.. It has the black inner lining, shoot thru windows and several other nice features. The name of it is the Ameristep Brickhouse blind. Cabela's sells them for $150.00. I got it for $105.00. I plan on using it for deer mostly. My hunting area was clear cut about 15 years ago. It has some awesome sign in certain areas but no good trees to get in. I figured it might be a good place for a blind for bowhunting. I will probably use it for turkeys too.

Arrow I think you did ok. I bought a Ameristep Doghouse last year to hunt with my 9 yr old in.I think its a step down from yours and I bought it at Dunhams for around 70 bucks. It worked great during youth gun season,we had deer all around us and turkeys a few feet from the blind. The deer took notice and were a little nervous but the turkeys paid no attention.

Sounds like a pretty good deal Arrow. If your happy why would you care what the rest of these blokes think? Blinds are good for turkey.

Thunderflight, try this address for the picture of the blind. I hope it works. http://www.huntingpages.com/ambrbl.html.

Cob, I guess what I was asking was did I waste my money buying a blind to try and hunt whitetails out of with a bow. I have heard mixed reviews about this. I have some areas that I'm really wanting to hunt but there are no suitable trees for a stand . But lots of thick stuff where I may be able to set a blind up.
I know they work for turkey. The first time I ever heard about them being used for turkey was when I read article about it in the OBA magazine by Neil Neer.

I kinda wish I had spent the extra $$$ and got one of those instead of the blind I have.

Thanks

Arrow only time and testing will tell for deer hunting. My experience with deer and my T2 ground blind is deer spook, and very easy. Of the four deer that have come with in range of my blind, all bucks, have known the blind was there and SPOOKED, big time. Last two times I had brushed in the blind. Great for turkey but have not work for me and deer. :(

Cob, Was your blind set up in a fairly oped woods or was it a thick brushy area that the blind would tend to blend into better?

COB,

Did you leave the windows open? I've read that they freak when they see the black hole.

the longer the blind stays out the more animals will get used to it,professional photographers has used them for years even on the spookiest of animals but leave them out for months to let animals get used to them.just like buildings, houses or deer hunting towers they seem to adjust to em in time.

Arrow first two tikes was pretty open. I also thought it might have been tomopen and that is why third and fourth time I had heavily brushed.

TF windows were covered with netting all four times.

I sure as hell am not going to walk away fronmm a high priced blind and leave it in the woods for all the crooks out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got the blind yesterday. It was everything I expected. Just one problem with the eBay transaction though. The guy I bought it from did not ship it to my house as agreed. I had to go to the airport to get it. The guy runs an eBay bussiness called Nice Guy Distributing. Just a heads up if you deal with him. He sells all kinds of outdoor stuff.

I just set the blind up in my yard for the second time to practice the procedure. 2 of the fiber poles in the roof split when I popped the roof up. I just sent Ameristep an e-mail to see if they can help me out. I may have wasted my money after all. I am waiting to find out.

They "should" help you out. It is very important to keep the screens up for deer. Especially if you don't leave it out foe them to get used to it. Just my experience.

Thanks Beentown,
Have you ever shot an arrow through one of those screens? I was wondering if it affected the flight any.

Also, I have not heard a word from Ameristep yet!

I would go ahead and call there 800 number or customer service.

As shooting through the screens...not a difference in arrow flight for me. I use cut on contact heads so I'm not sure about mechanicals:confused: Shoot a couple through for practice. You'll see.

Good to hear they made good on your complaint. I love good customer service.

I hunted out of a similar blind in Texas on my hog hunt. There were deer all around me, but they definitely didn't like the looks of the blind. I heard several blow from behind me, after they circled around and got downwind.

A small group of javelina came in. Even with their relatively poor eyesight, they picked out the blind and stared for probably 20 minutes before coming in to the feeder.

Good luck with it!

Have you ever thought of a tripod for the treeless areas? As long as the brush grows up high enough...

One thing I have noticed after a little experimentation this spring. Alway and I mean always keep the screens up. Everytime I had the screens down deer and turkey kept a good distance (200 yards) away from me. Another thing that helps is to have the sun at your back or on the sides.

Hntnfsh, The first thing I thought about about for hunting the treeless areas was a tripod. But the ones I looked at it the catalogs were too heavy and large to move from place to place as often as I would like too. Some of the areas I hunt are remote with some big hills. The next thing I thought of was a Ghille suit. I was not too sure about that Idea either.

Beentown, Have you ever tried opening all of the flaps at one time while the screens are in? Or, do you have to have that black background on 2 or 3 sides?
