View Full Version : buckeye wipers
what the sam heII is going on with the wipers at buckeye. This is the second year in a row that as far as I know there has been no run up the feeders. I check at least twice a week and nothing, zippo, zilch. Makes me wonder if the hard freezes we had the past couple of winters has killed them off some?? I did pick up a crappie tonight before the thunderstorm ran me off. The lake is high and the boat ramps are almost under water. Guess someone needs to turn off the rain.

my one penny --
-the under 10"ers end up the the flyin' black bas-turds bellies ~ the over 10" dinks fall victim to the chow-crowd aka meat-hunters & the remainin' few good fish don't get C & R -ed...
heheh ~ probably a opinion you didn't want to hear..

PS .. I hope I'm wrong Fred, we don't even have hardly any WBs left over this way --
you might be right but I hope not. The wipers are big fun on a ultra light setup, some real drag burners. :D I never ate one but then why should I when there are eyes and perch calling for me. :D

i can't buy into the fished out,ate up by birds thing, though i considered it to a point.
my thoughts are there was a freeze kill along with the possibility of a change in pattern that has them in different areas than normal.with the dredge working in the east end,it could be a factor also, but i'm still guessin' and beatin' my brain.
maybe a day of cruisin' the lake would turn up new hot spots, but it's gettin' late now.
just another penny's worth.

We had 3 weeks of heavy rain n' floods in May with dead white bass floatin' all over the place by the 3rd week in May if mem serves me correctly - I never caught another WB till one lil' dink late last fall ... about 3-5 years ago I quit seein' the numerous massive summer surface schools that used to be so common - of course the C'rants arrived in greater numbers every year & we have meat hogs who nite fish with lights off boats who keep everything in sight thrown into the mix also --
WBs n' Breeds are close n' maybe there is a flood bug goin' around...along with both lakes bein' shallow for the C'rants to easily fill ther bellies --

Still tryin to figure out how when you are an old airhead. I just figured it was dusty inside with all the air going though.. :D:D Well old and drifty Makes more since every day.. Hopefully I'll get ahold of one of those wipers this year. Havent been to buckeye ocean since ice out.. Suprisingly I have never heard of any wipers comming out of there during ice season  I guess we'll have to make a mis adventure out there and see. ;)
Big floods at buckeye last year to Ray.

why do you think they died from the flood? I wonder how many went over the spillway and dam?
I may have to take the boat out there and do some scouting around.

I believe they set a high water record for here at IL & I'm sure many fish went over the dam of all types.
Dead WBs --
fact ~ With that amount of rain - our watershed got a good ground cover/perk flush into Indian lake of any & all contaminates - in the warm water season of late May ...
-I've seen the results, but don't have a lock on the cause or multiple causes of the WB crash...
