I don't know much about fishing on the hocking river, but I totaled a canoe during church camp on some old rock dam in Nelsonville.

Bent the dang thing half and then had it land on top of me. I got pretty banged up too.

I just know it's just out side of Nelsonville.

It was a fun trip until we got stuck. Then the boat swamped and the force of the water bent the boat in half and shot the canoe outta the damn....

I also lost my fishing pole too. I was madder about that than anything.

George, I see/hear people talking about White's Mill all the time. I've never been there myself, but my buddy said he lost a million hooks, literally, right there were the rapids are. Do you recommend below it(towards the river) or north of it(towards nelsonville?

below the falls and use very big minners, bobber,a lit bobber for night fishing(no snags then, just fish)and the biggest circle hooks you can find...throw into the current and float the bobber and bait downstream til yuh cant see your bobber, butt i prolly wont git far,and zip ,yuh bobber is gone, its neat watching the lit bobbers zipping under whater at nite.i have heard roomers bout the mill that its not as deep now and they quit taking out all the dirt that builds up in the river below.

rod bender, just checking if anybuddy really pays attention.the hockin does have a good population of smallmouth bass.there are some holes where they can be caught all day long and there are rock bass to 12",now thats a scrapper that inch per in,is the toughest battler of all,i think.

i do believe its possible the next record rivercat(shovelhead)could come from whitesmill in athens, unless the roomers are true i been hearing.there is a lot of bruisers coming outta there.yes it is snag city there so you gotta use the biggest pole an strongest line you can find.the big cats are there.
