Hey guys. I'm not sure if anyone saw, but I posted in another thread that I got my first fish of the season last Saturday. It was no whopper but it was good to get that first fish of the year. I will be out there Sunday weather permitting. Anyone else ventured out for them yet?

Well, I will not be going out tomorrow that's for sure. Why in the world do people troll for walleye in April? Don't you know how to fish??????

George - I have a 27' boat that I take up to Lake Erie at least once a month on Erie. If you would like to go just let me know. All I ask is to help for gas and bait. If anything you'll catch some sheephead to wake up your poles!:D

Dude, Trolling in April can be outstanding. Saturday was slow for most, but we got three 5-6lbers. Check out the April reports on my website from last year, plenty of pictures of BIG fish! I believe most of the females hang out in deeper water just off the reefs. Watch your sonar, many, many big fish suspended throughout the water column. What other method other than trolling would you suggest to target these fish? Do you think the fish are too inactive because of water temperature to chase a bait? Tell that to the guys who experience HOT action through the ice. Jigging the reefs will score lots of jacks, some females, but it's also risky for larger boats. At least we are not snagging fish as many do this time of year. As you said, guess I just don't know how to fish.....maybe you could teach us all something.

Ray, I've had this handle since I joined and this is the only one I have ever used on this site. One side note, I don't even like Fords! lol
Voyageur, I was just teasin. I have caught big fish in December trolling so I know that it works in cold water. It is a very effective method for putting fish in the box!

Jay, what do you draft? You're probably pretty safe on most reefs except spots on Toussaint and Crib.

Yeah that would be scarey Jay. Yet, outside of the 2 foot hump on Crib and a 5 and 6 footer on Toussaint, most reefs are deeper. I am sure on calm days you would be fine on Cone, Niagra, Round, big and little Pic, flat rock and a few more. But what the hay, you're doing good off the reefs too :-)
