Question for flyfishers.
How do you get the best results with wooly bugger ?.
what i mean is do you cast it upstreams and let it drift down the current or cast it across the current and retrieve it ?

To be honest I've never had a lot of luck with them for steel and I've fished them every which way and all kinds of color combos. Everyone I fish with does well with them but me. don't ask me why. Don't know if I'm not getting them deep enough or what. I just bought some lead core leader to try when the water starts to come down, see if that helps me.

Normal trout fishing is another story. I do really well letting them wing them strip them in kind of jerky.

Best method I found for me is to cast them across the water, let it drift about 20 yards, then start a slow retrieve.
