I will be in the pristine mountains of Tucker County, West Virginia next weekend, trying to fill my creel limit on Rainbows, Brookies, or maybe even a Goldie (if I'm lucky). My question to all you fly fishing EXPERTS is what fly's would you sugest?? I am taking my spinning rod and am going to use the old standby's, salmon eggs, powerbait and spinners, but I would like to use my flyrod as much as posible.
Happy Spring, and Good fishing!!!!:)

Im no expert but I cant help but try anyways.
1..Green, black ,chart, red, blue/silver depending on your stream ...(greens are a must have )caddis imitations ( try the beaded)
2..Black and brown little stoneflies
3..black , olive, brown, white gold bead headed little wooley buggers
egg sucking leeches in black, purple, brown olive ,chart, orange ,who knows
4..hex (wiggler imitaion)nymphs ,hares ears with or with out flashback
olive , green, brown , black sparrows
little muddlers or zoo cougars, wooleyheads (sculpin imitations)
dace minnow imitations- crystal flash clousers, white bugger, goldendace
Then if there is a spawn - egg flies and suckerspawn flies
are among the best

Sounds like a nice weekend!
If I were putting together a box for the weekend:
black or brown wooly buggers size #10
Sculpins or Matukas in size #10
Some kind of black and brown stonefly nymph in #10 and #14
Prince nymphs in the same size.
Pheasant tails in #12 and #16
sucker spawn in size #10 or #12.
Partridge and orange soft hackle in a size #14
Caddis larva in white or green.
In the wishful thinking deptartment.
This early most of the dries will be out of the question but with the warm weekend there maybe some exceptions of some black caddis flies or little black stones in about a sz #16. If there are wild fish and you don't mind fishing tiny stuff throw in some sz. 22 midges. ;)
Make sure you let us know how it goes!

Thanks Lance and Lunker, both of your list will go with me to the local sporting goods store. I dont figure either, that the dry flies will do any good, but just for *****$ and giggles I might try a couple. I am sort of new to the whole fly fishing thing and I love it!! I caught my first trout on a fly rod last year and I can compare it with my first buck kill!! I dont know why more people dont do it!! While we are on the fly fishing subject, do any of you fellas have any pointers on what will make a golden trout bite??? We where fishing Horseshoe Creek last spring and I caught a bright golden flash in the undercut of the bank, it was a Golden Trout!!! I know Goldies are nothig more than a genetic mutation of a rainbow, but that sucker would'nt bite at anything I threw at him!! I even bumped his nose with a salmon egg, witch finaly spooked him, If I see another one this year I would love to hang him on my wall!!! Thanks for all the good pointers keep em' commin!!!

You have alot of good choices there so I won't waste your time with any more. Good luck Sycamore!!!
I dont know why more people dont do it!!
Lets be thankful they don't!!!
I was fishing the Madison River in Montana a few years ago and there were enough fisherman around I thought I was going to get caught on a back-cast. I didn't stay there very long, I went to a spot my brother-in-law has access to on private property.
I managed two Brownies that day on that little tributary.

i think the big thing with goldens is every body else can see them too, every body and there brother has threw something at him....i dont know what every body else calls these ,but we were in the mountains a few weeks ago and caught several fish on greenie weenies, we had tried every fly we had except for those then we did, and it worked wonders

I need to get into the tying part of fly fishing, those little things are kinda pricey at the tackel shop, plus they dont have much of a selection. Thanks for all the helpful advice guys, Iwill let you know a week from today how the trip went!!!

You're little far away for me to give you lessons but if you need flies in the interim PM me. I can probably do better on pricing for you that what the shops are doing. I'll be advertising on here in a few months.

Great!! I would love to buy from a private person, rather than the local Outdoor shop, they get enough of my money!!!! Only 2 more days. I pulled up the weather this morning for Parsons WV, and they say chance of snow on Saturday, oh well a little white stuff cant stop me!!

I haven't forgot you catdaddy! I've been trying to figure out a good list of flies that all contain squirrel tail in them. I've got about a half dozen patterns already tied using your tails. You do want all flies with squirrel tail right? I just got a new desk this spring and got it all setup the way I want it. Tying like fiend now! :D
Sycamore, just send me a PM and we can talk about what you need. I tie most every thing, only weak point is the big deer hair bass bugs.

Well the fishing report for Tucker County WV. this past weekend can be summed up in one word.......... HORRIBLE!!! Blackwater had almost 2 foot of snow. An old guy at the bait store in town said that last Thursday night was the worst it snowed all winter. I was pushin snow with the bottom bumper on my full size 4x4 pickup!!! We think the snow had em' spooked or somthin cause we only caught 1 medium size rainbow all day!! when 4 guys are fishin hard core all day long, 1 dinky trout just did'nt cut it. The scenery was beuatiful, but I wasnt used to seein that much snow in April!!! Oh well, next month we will hit her again and have better luck then. If any of yall want to plan a great trout fishing trip, let me know and I will tell ya where all my "Honey Holes" are!!! Just dont hold me up to them bitein', thats between you and the trout!!!!!

Oh yea, I almost forgot I did'nt even break out the fly rod. The snow had the trees pulled down, so I figured that would screw up my backcast. My waders got a hole ripped in them, thanks to my old lady, so wading was out of the question. I just stuck to the old spinning rod, with red salmon eggs, and spinners. Oh well I'll git um next time!!!
