Folks I just can't make up my mind.

Tomorrow I'm a loner and since I didn't get boat I'll be hunting on the South Carolina side. I've got two areas to go.

I'm also up in the air as to which weapon to hunt with,,, bow or gun....

Whatta you think?

How many hogs are you aloud to get? if its 1 then go for the gun...but if your aloud 2 get the first with a gun and the second with bow!!:D hunt the pond....they will be rolling around in the mud near the pond....just a thought...

you are going out all by yourself, not too many hogs have been seen, you gotta take a gun, it will just improve your odds, that way you can kill one, and the guys that backed out will be wishing that they went

I agree. Get the meat first with the gun and then concentrate on getting your bow kill. It will take some pressure off of you since after the gun kill you will have meat. Plus, after a nice "meat kill", you can concentrate on the big boys later. Go to where the pigs are most commonly seen (regardless of size).

I think I would be hitting the pond first thing in the morning!
THose hogs will be needing water just like any other animal so that's where I would be and plan a strategy from there.

sounds like some tuff huntin, if i remember right the pond is where you seen the hog and the fresh wallow?
if your hunting alone i'd grab the gun and hang out in that area and shoot ya a hog when it shows up to wallow and cool itself off!
good luck to ya, and great posting.

Crossbows are illegal on the refuge.

You know I've thought about buying one of those hog calls, but I never tried it.

Usually there is a ton of hog sign all over the place, but this year is different. My buddy Paco said that even during last Novembers gun season it was the same.

All I can say is I'm glad no one came down from Ohio for this hunt. This year has been really tough. Usually we see five to ten hogs a day. Usually someone gets a shot every day too and someone always gets one during the week.

If I go out tomorrow I'm going to check out a different section of the refuge on the SC side. It's only been open for a couple of years and it's not one of the more popular spots.
